If you leagally adopt them it should but id say its up to you in the end. You will have to sign (with the parents permission), documents to change the childs name. Think of what would be best for the child in the future.

As the previous response indicated, the last name does not HAVE to change, but it can if you choose it to. At the finalization ceremony, where the judge approves the adoption, the judge will ask you what name you have given this child. At that point, whatever name you present the judge with, is the legal name of the child.
Good luck.

Yes, I do believe that when you adopt a child, the last name of that child will change to your last name. I am adopted and I have a few friends who are also adopted, and all of our last names were changed to our parents last names when we were adopted. Also, my step-sister was adopted by her step-father which changed her last name... So, I'm pretty positive that when you adopt a child, his or her last name will change to yours.

you have the option. Generally the last name is changed to yours as a visible display that he is a part of your family now. However some leave the last name so there can be a reminder of the old family. It depends on whether or not you want them to remember the old family.
