It depends on their age and experience relative to yours.
Occasionally, you meet people who nag you just in order to boost their own self esteem by getting you to do something their way, rather than your way.
Usually though, naggers are caring people who have been around long enough to recognize (often from their own personal experience) when someone is adopting attitudes and ways of doing things that will ultimately turn out to be not in their own best interest. They can get really frustrated that the nag-ee can't recognize the sheer stupidity of their own actions.

Nobody nags you all the time. It just that you are just too sensitive. We wouldn't have to keep telling you what to do if you had done it already and had you done it right the first time. If you were just more like your mother we would all get along. You never listen to anything we say, you just yack, yack, yack and never get anything done. And when it is done you never get it done one time and when it is done on time, it's never right.Blah.Blah. Blah.
