make sure to stretch before you start, and maybe even after, too. I'm told by trainers to resist the temptation of hot showers or hot tubs right after a heavy work out. This actually compounds the problem. (I'm told ice baths helps reduce it considerably but I'm too chicken to try).

The soreness is likely from lactic acid build-up which basically means you are pushing your body beyond it's ability to properly oxygenate the muscles during work. It will be broken down, sent to the liver, and reconverted to a usable form of energy that you get to burn again. (lovely, isn't it :) If this is what is happening to you it should improve as your body becomes more fit.

Is this level of exercise relatively new to you or did you recently start up again? If so then it is probably lactic acid building up. Be sure that you're not sore from something else such as injury that may require more serious attention.

Good luck!

If you have not been running since last season your body has to get back into shape for the sport. Make sure that you are warming up and stretching prior to going on your run and after as well. This will increase circulation for the muscles and allow prevent the buildup of the lactic acid in your muscles.

Your muscle needs repair. I take creatine before and after the exercise to prevent soreness.
