Persia is the older name for the country. Iran is the current name. The proper name for the country is the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The people from Iran can either be called Iranian or Persian. When referring to heads of state the term Iranian is used. Such as Iranian President Ahmadi-nejad.

The language of Iran is usually called Farsi but it can also be called Persian.

You know , Iran is the Country , Persian is the race ;
They use both of them sometimes , but actually when you say Persian it means that the person speaks Persian and racially is Persian , but you know some Kurds , Turks , Arabs and such are livinig in iran , so they can also be called Iranian but not Persian ;
But today sometimes they call all Iranians , Persians ;

Persia is the old empire, but many Iranians consider themselves Persian and Iranian. Same thing. 'Iranian' is contemporary.
