I have had a tongue piercing since age 18, I am 28. Recently my tongue started to hurt so I took out the ring tonight. If I put my finger on top and bottom of my tongue, it feels like a little ball, like a marble size, is in my tongue and it is sore. What could this be? I have never had an infection, and I have had this ring for 10 years. What could it be? Scar tissue-but 10 years to form? Please help. I am freaking out!!

hey mate, well the ball you feel is normal, it happens with any piercing, ears, lip, toungue. its just the inner outside of the hole, where it has healed completly, it should have been like that for years for you.
the pain probably isnt, is it swallon or weaping? if soo maybe you should go to a clinic, if its an aching pain with no other symptoms then you may have somthing stuckin the hole, maybe try cleaning it. also its probably a good idea to gargle salt water soloution untill its better or untill you decide to see a professional, it will stop more infection and help to keep it clean. 2 t sppon of salt mixed in a glass of water should do. hope you get better mate. good luck!

Sounds like scar tissue.
I have had 2 piercings and always had a little extra something around where the piercing was. For your mouth I would recommend using Listerine (anti bacterial mouth wash) to make sure food or nothing else get into to opening while it closes.

I have had my toungue ring for 8 years and I have the same ball like thing in my tounge. I occasionaly get pain but nothing sever. I would def seek medical advice from your doctor. It could be something serious. try a gargling salt water or peroxide in the mean time in case it is infected but def get it checked out

A peroxide rinse will kill bacteria, then rinse with salt water and hold it in your mouth for a bit and swish it around. It can't hurt to see the doc if it hurts too much.

it could be an infection, your mouth is full of bacteria...it doesn't matter how long you've had a tongue ring, you can still get an infection...see a Dr.

I agree with Kathy. In the meantime make sure you gargle with Listerine to kill the germs, and prevent it from getting worse.
