It's just the two of us in the office...
Most of the time he is not there, but when he is I find myself bossing him around to get the job done. The worst part is...he takes it! Sometimes I feel really bad about dominating him, but other times it makes me feel useful and strong.
Is this okay?

I honestly think he likes it. I think he likes that I take charge and run the show...typical "woman behind the man" syndrome.

It's been four years already...I don't think he's going to cut me loose anytime soon...really.

Dudette!!! You got it made. See if you can affect what he wears. Like, tell him if he wants to get the job done faster he should take his pants off, or wear his hair in a mohawk.
Maybe you have lasted so long as a team because he needs you to boss him around. Some people need it to get them motivated, and so maybe having you there is really good for him.
However, there is no reason to make him lick your shoes or anything. Rembember... With great power comes great responsibility.

I am totally the same way (though I do throw a curve every once in a while and take a very submissive role and take orders with a "yes, sir" demeanor). I think good bosses secretly love the subordinates who roll their eyes and tell them how it should be done because it means the employee is taking the job seriously and not just taking blind orders. If you take charge, you become someone who is getting the job done, and not someone he has to supervise. It's a good thing.

Discuss the matter with him. Ask him if he approves the way behave. Whatever he answers you you need to follow.
I did the same. My boss said that he is very satisfied with me and the way I push things to be done. He will not be happy with my work if I start being soft. Sometimes though he feels the pressure and he gets upset but he cannot say anything to me since I follow his instruction.

He probably gets off on it. Try not doing it for the next three times he is around you and see what he does. You could be dealing with an impending sexual harassment thing here. If you don't figure out what is going on ASAP.

I guess be careful, it can back fire and you can get into trouble. You could get to the point where he just doesn't want to take it anymore, and has enough of you telling him what to do. Just be respectful and maybe just say as suggestion this would be better this way.

Only if you don't mind sitting in unemployment offices. Sooner or later its bound to happen. You are on a very slippery slope! Be careful.
