So I got a tattoo about 4 days ago... right now it's just starting to flake, but it's on my side just above my hip so naturally (since I have to wear pants or SOMEthing..) it rubs a bit.

But today I guess there was a bit of a scab and it attached to my pants and when I went to take them off it ripped a piece of skin off! It ripped off enough that it's a slight hole in the skin and I can see either blood or the pink ink in the hole.

I'm guessing it will damage the tattoo. How so though?
Is there anything I can do to prevent it happen again?

Thanks. *sigh*

You may have lost some color in that area of the tattoo, but it's a bit early to tell. Don't pick at it! Wait for it to heal, and if needed, you can go back to the tattoo shop for a little color fill in that area. No big deal, they'll fix ya right up! In the meantime, keep it slightly moisturized with a bit of bacitracin ointment (or a little vasaline). Just enough to diminish some of the scabbing until it's healed. Don't over moisturize, because the skin needs to "breath" in order to heal properly. Just be more aware of it these next couple of days also to remove your clothing carefully. It'll heal up much more in the next few days. Good luck!

Skin Ripping Tattoos

ok first slow down, I am a professional tattooist, Is the tattoo actually falling out or is the skin just flaking? without seeing it It is hard to give you my professional opinion, if the ink is not completey falling out of the skin, it would sound as if it is healing normal to me, A tattoo should not scab if it is kept clean and has been applied well. it will begin to peel and flake. you should follow your tattoists advice on after-care proceedures. However, at this point in healing, I usually advise my clients to use a mild lotion like curell. If your tattoo has other issues it may be a reaction to some of the pigments used in the tattoo inks, It is quite possible to have an allergic reaction. If I could see pictures, I could give a better opinion. good luck

Okay you may need a touch up from the scab comming off like that, you wont know untill it's healed. Never let clothes rub your tattoo like that, you need some extra low rise jeans and low cut underwear, then get some extra long shirts so that nobody sees your booty when you sit down :) That should prevent rubbing and prevent any more scabs getting ripped off.

Don't wear your clothing over the tattoo the first few days. Wear low-rise pants or roll the waist band of your pants down until the scab is healed. If you can't do this, keep a bandage over it until it is well. It probably will be messed up a little.

This actually happened to me when I got my tattoo. I hit it and gouged the skin and took a chunk right out. I continued to treat the tattoo like they advised and when it all healed, I noticed the color in that spot was a bit lighter. Nothing a trip back to the parlor couldn't fix. It did not destroy the integrity of the design but that may depend on the detail. Good luck.

It's gonna be ok sweety. Don't evaluate your tattoo until 30 days have passed or it will just make you go crazy.

your artist will be more than happy to do a touch up if needed later down the road.

Feel better?

See that's the problem right there if you were going to wear pants that were going to cover the tat & be so tight that it can't breathe you were just asking for trouble. Did they not explain the care treatment to you? Anyways we all have our tattoo mishaps luckly for me my boyfriend was on mines so tuff I didn't have a chance to screw it up, I found that rubbing a dime sized amount{depending on the size} of neosporin to the tattoo b4 getting dressed lessens the effects of clothes sticking to it.... Also you should have really kept a slight gauze over it after applying the neosporin{simply because it allows the tat to breathe & heal without sticking to your clothes}

Trust it was not your skin you ripped off, & if the tat still looks like it did when you got it more than likely you just ripped off the scab that was coming off anyway..Besides if its too bad you can always get a touch up later when it heals.....

Just PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T USE VASELINE as it will make the colors get way too light & might just completeIy destroy the tat, that was too much pain to have to redo I'm sure! hope I helped

Most reputable parlours will do touchups once your tattoo has healed. Just take good care of it now until its completely healed and come back to your artist
