That depends on where you go. Hollywood represents the view of left wing whackos usually, and only those who imitate the movies, or live in lower class parts of urban areas really act like that. Few movies of recent years portray Americans like any I know of. Most people here live by the idea you treat others as you want to be treated, those that don't are held in low regard.

do we americans really have manners? i think most of the world would say no and i agree to some extent, we are mean to other nations and we think we are omniscient, however the best manners are prolly us southerners cause we are down to earth but know how to treat a lady when our mammas properly raise us. sophisticated people are too schnobby ifthats a word
PS your right firetdri, americans dont riot over soccer games because they suck at it, it would be a waste of time, however, last year at norhtern illinois university when the white sox won the world series over 5000 students stormed the campus streets, sings were torn down all trash cans overturned and 12 cars were broken into, way to go america! you sure showed everyone else

Pfft, what manners? I'm only fifteen and I'm able to judge that manners are lacking here in the United States. Whatever happened to the Southern code? (If you are a Northerner I beg your apologies; I've been reading a bit of William Faulkner lately. =D)

I don't think there are many manners to be proud off. I mean, many are pretty rude. Like for manners, i would say the Japanese people who respect the elderly or the Indian people are so nice and no matter what you do, they just are so calm and relaxed. I mean it, the indian people (from India) are the most respectful.

(I am not indian, so I am not bias)

as quickly as upon a time an Australian walked right into a bar in Dallas, Texas. He says to the barman "supply me a lager Bruce, i'm drier than a Yankee's towel". A Texan sitting on the bar says "i like yow-er type son. tell me, what area of britain are yew from?" That substitute into the day Australians started out to dislike human beings. human beings disliking Australians? i don't think of that's accessible. i've got under no circumstances heard of it.

They don't exist. Too many parents are way to lax with their children now, and too many people are sue happy that manners don't exist any more. People just try to make it through the day without doing stuff that lands them in court. For crying out loud this is a country where you can end up in a class action suit for saying God bless you to someone.

Only from what I have read and seen in movies. The usage of Ma'am and Sir is a little bit excessive. And it seems like a deterrent rather than courtesy.

That there is too much obsession over them in some parts and completely lacking in other parts.

Just remember that 2 wrongs don't make a right. If a person slips and chews with their mouth open, don't yell, "Good gosh that's gross! Shut your d**n trap!" One person's rudeness or forgetfulness does not excuse rudeness in another.
