Before you ask what is man...you should ask what is Being? For better answers to that question read Of Being and Time by a german philosopher Martin Heidegger.

The wikipedia article to follow is a good starting point but the actual book is AMAZING.

so what would man be once all the secrets were no longer secrets?

I have a difficult time understanding how man could be the content of his consciousness/unconscious/subconscious/personality/awareness.
It's like saying that a theater is a movie.
The content of man is much different from the context of man.
...man is a context.
