African American is a PC term that was introduced back in the day. It's a term used to refer to black people. I don't really see how it would really have anything to do with you being one of the strongest people in your grade.

EVERYONE has roots, my friend. That's just a way of saying we all come from somewhere, and we all have ancestors. The whole point to genealogy is to identify the names of those persons... grandparents, gr grandparents and however far you can go back. KInd of related to genetics, but genetics is more about biological stuff rather than real live persons with names and personalities.
Most African Americans are well aware of this by their family. It is also realistic to say that there are and have been many intermarriages between "whites" and "blacks", and some persons can carry one trait much more than the other. In my mind, I am not interested so much in the genetics end, but if all of us can know who our ancestors are, and have pride in them and ourselves. Being strong physically is one thing..and there also is being strong in your heart, which has nothing to do with the other kind.
Here is one website I like.. www.cyndislist.com and it has files on HOW TO trace your family. Most of these how to's have no bearing on if you are African American or not, until you get further back, and you need to look in different records.
Sounds like Mom is proud of who she is..and maybe she would like tracing her heritage. Share this note with her.

Trace your family tree back as far as you can. Ask your grandparents questions about your heritage.
Depending on how far back the genetics go, sometimes you can tell by the shape of certain bones like your skull, this is how forensic pathologists can tell the race of a person by their skeleton.
Also, I'm pretty sure there are some elements that can be picked up in a blood test (not DNA) that are linked to african americans only.
Just some options.

First off, if your Mom told you that you do, ask her to explain. If genetics IS part of why you're "one of the strongest people in" your grade, it wouldn't be about a specific type of people in your ancestry, but a combination of everyone. The strongest genes are what thrive within us.
And while you might or might not have "African American" blood, there may well be African blood. African American is a term for those whose ancestors were born here.
For example, I have African blood that was straight from Africa as well as from here in the US, but I don't worry about the distinction. It's not something that can be changed... just accepted for what it is. You wouldn't be who you are if even one ancestor was missing from your family tree. Just be thankful for whoever they were that you are who you are.

well, once you're asking, you should know, back in your family line that african-american women are never going to have caucasian looking childern, even if so is the father (it's a genetics thing),while white women mostly have afro looking children, considering the father.
