In an analysis of efficacy data submitted to the FDA between 1987 and 1999 for six of the most popular selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants, 75 to 80% of the response to medication was duplicated in placebo groups.

(Kirsch and Moore, "The Emperor’s New Drugs: An Analysis of Antidepressant Medication Data Submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration," Prevention & Treatment, Volume 5, Article 23, July 15, 2002.)

These data were the basis on which the medications were approved by the FDA. The researchers explained that the “small difference between the drug response and the placebo response has been a ‘dirty little secret’ known to researchers who conduct clinical trials, FDA reviewers, and a small group of critics who analyzed the published data.

Hi THere

Here are some real healing methods.

A Quick Action Plan for Depression

1. Have yourself screened to rule out food and environmental allergies, hypoglycemia, and histamine and hormonal imbalances.

2. Also screen for possible viral infections of the brain. Virus implicated in many cases of mental health disorders include cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein-Barr virus, human herpes virus 6 (HHV6), and infectious mononucleosis.

3. Avoid psychiatric drugs due to the serious side effects they can cause, including suicide and homicidal tendencies. Instead, seek out the help of a holistic health practitioner who specializes in the treatment of mental health disorders using safe and natural methods.

4. Eliminate all commercially processed foods and foods that contain chemical additives, colorings, flavorings, pesticides, and preservatives from your diet. Also avoid alcohol and caffeine, as well as refined carbohydrates, sugar, and artificial sugar substitutes, and minimize your intake of milk and dairy products.

5. If you suffer from food allergies or sensitivities, eliminate the foods that trigger such reactions.

6. Emphasize an organic, whole foods diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, free-range meats and poultry, and wild caught fish. Also drink plenty of pure filtered water throughout the day.

7. If you suffer from hypoglycemia, eat meals that are high in quality protein foods and low in carbohydrates. Remove all refined flours and sugars from the diet. In addition to eating three meals each day, also snack on healthy foods such as nuts, seeds, and raw vegetables every 2 to 3 hours between meals in order to maintain healthy blood sugar levels. A good rule of thumb is three meals and two snacks.

8. Useful supplements include B complex vitamins, especially vitamin B1, B3 (niacin), B6 and B12, as well as vitamin C, calcium, folic acid, magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Omega 3 oils and other essential fatty acids are also recommended.

9. If you suffer from severe mental health disorders, seek the help of a physician trained in the field of orthomolecular medicine.

10. Consider the use of Bach flower remedies and/or magnetic therapy, both of which are excellent self-care therapies for mental and emotional health problems.

11. Useful herbs include chamomile, ginkgo biloba, milk thistle, passion flower, Siberian ginseng, St. John's wort, valerian root, and walnut tea.

12. Take steps to minimize stress and learn how to more effectively manage stress when it occurs.

Try keeping a journal, making it a habit to daily write down the issues that concern you in order to gain a better understanding of them.

Best of health to you

I started taking anti-depressants in late 2001, my depression was so bad I couldn't leave the house and gained 60 pounds. Food was my best friend, ecspecially whole pizzas and the big family size poptarts box in one sitting. I started on paxil, then it wasn't so helpful, then moved onto Lexapro which worked great. I then developed OCD and switched to Luvox and Risperdal and I am symptom free. It's really depends on your body, all the meds are pretty much the same thing, just some work better than others. Good Luck!

The best answer to the question is a question. If the antidepressents are doing their jobs.. then why are people using these drugs still committing suicide.?
People who are depressed need answers, not drugs. The fear of the unknown is great and causes anxiety. If the person is put into a support group, and helped with their fears by a qualified person(s) it generally helps to 'lighten the load'.
If there is an anxiety chat line going in your town, count yourself lucky. They are manned day and night by volunteers and will talk to, or listen to you until you calm down and feel better. These people are angels on earth. They do take a class(s) on relating to people and all the legalities involved.

This is just my opinion. I live in the US, and in this country, antidepressants are not to be prescribed to anyone under the age of 18 because it can cause suicidal ideation. Now, pristiq is one of the newer ones, in the "SNRI" category. This means that it works to increase TWO brain chemicals, which are believed to be lacking. They can take 4-8 weeks to reach therapeutic level--and some do have side effects. Nausea is common and goes away in a few days or more. I have known many people who have been on antidepressants for 10-20 years and have never reported feeling 'numb'. It may be that your body is getting used to it?? Maybe a lower dose? Google it and read up on it and ask the psychiatrist. Best wishes.

I got identified with genital herpes (type 2) about 4 years back, when I was still attending college and had a silly one-night stand. I know lots of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and all of a sudden I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date guys again. After all, who wants to go out with someone who has sores around her private parts? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/awGEx everything changed.

Not only was I able to eliminate all traces of the herpes simplex virus from my body in less than three weeks, but I was also able to begin dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so lucky to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This program provided the opportunity to be happy and experience true love again. Now I hope that I can help others too by sharing this story.

Here is another well-kept secret: you can raise your brain serotonin level simply by taking magnesium (1000mg/day) this is very efficient you won't have to wait 3 weeks to feel the effect within 2 hours you feel better and finally it won't damage your liver like antidepressants.
