Wing Tips can get scraped or damaged when parking the aircraft too close to another plane or too close to a building. This is a very useful part and is worth what they are asking for it.

If you were to put it on a privately owned and used aircraft, things would be fine.
If the plane were used commercially, you would have to have a paper-trail for it; history, ownership, time in use.
Most Cessna 337's are private, though, so it looks to be a good part.

Just out of interest, G_Dub, can you replace an aircraft part just like that (that too, off ebay!)? What happens to aircraft certifications?

You yourself should not work on an airplane unless you are certified... take it to the shop but if you have the part and tell them to put that one on, it will save you parts cost... labor will still get you however...
