You seem to exude agnostic tendencies. Read Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins. They will help. Knowledge is Power!!! It sounds odd, but I actually recommend that you reread the bible. Knowing why people believe is part of knowing the real answer.

The more you resist the harder the Holy Spirit will convict you. This is God working in your life. He wont's you to have a better life. There is FREEDOM IN CHRIST from the world and it's problems. If you are bored at this Church then shop around each Sunday attend different ones until it feels right. Try one that is Spirit filled, where you know God is with you. Try a non-denominational Church, where the Spirit of God flows freely. Ask God to lead you to a Church he knows, where all of your burdens are lifted. You mentioned that you know God exists, but yet you find it hard not to be swept away by His influence; fall to your knees and ask God for forgiveness. Set a time each morning and every afternoon to read His word and Pray. He can't help you if you do not pray. This is one decision you will never regret making. He is coming back to get His Saints(us) is upon us now anytime, so be a part of being Raptured up with Jesus. No more sickness, no more wars & no more cancer!

Then don't fight it. Maybe church or religion just isn't for you. There's nothing wrong with that. You can find your own path and still believe in God. I don't think you're trying to not be swept away by His influence, you're trying not to be swept away by the influence of the people around you who claim to be close to God or religion or whatever. Either or, it's not a requirement to believe in God or religion. If it doesn't do anything for you, drop it. That's between you and God if you think He exists.

As I currently go through a horrible time in my life, I guess I felt compelled to acknowledge your inquiry because my soon to be ex husband is the same way. But before I comment on it, I just wanted to acknowlege an answer to your question provided by someone by the name of John. It seems that a lot of what he said was true..nevertheless, it depends on the person and their circumstances. If you resist, then you know that there is something to resist. However, what you are resisting isn't something that is bad. It is something (Someone) who nowadays is looked harshly upon because of all of the science that we do have available. More importantly though, knowledge is power--but in all your knowing, know that it is Satan's job to keep you 'confused' and to constantly make you 'resist.' In doing this tireless task, he must provide you with distractions and even hard facts of life to keep you confused in high hopes of making you disbelieve altogether. If the adversary (satan) can get you to eventually disbelieve or be an unbeliever, then his job is done. As John advocated earlier, find a Bible based ministry or class that will nurture your soul. Be warned, when and if you decide to do this, the confusion & resistance can be heightened. We don't wrestle against flesh and blood, but we wrestle against the principalities of this world. If you are not a church attender, go and visit different churches that will cater to that itch. And when you find a church, don't be discouraged if one day down the line, you see something or hear something that isn't in the lines of the Holy Spirit. Remember that all have sinned & have fallen short of the glory of God. You might resist because there could be a calling on your life. Keep pressing on, you will find your way.

Worship is not about you and how you feel about it. If you go to the church for your own entertainment, you go for the wrong reasons. Worship is for God. Change the church if you are not spiritually fed. And make the church stronger with your service. Do not be only a church consumer.
Give it time. There is no shortcuts to a spiritual maturity.: )

There's a story of a monk and his disciples.
One day the master took the disciples aside and asked them:
Would you be disappointed if after all these years of working toward enlightenment, God decided that He would not grant you such a blessing?
The first disciple responded: I most certainly would!
and the master sent him back to study.
The second disciple said, 'well, if it was the will of God, I would have no reason to be disappointed.'
The master asked, 'would you regret your studies?'
and the student replied with a resounding 'no.'
...you have earned the Lord's permission to have enlightenment, said the monk, and sent the student back to his studies.
...you must diligently pursue God for its own sake...then the rewards will come. If you pursue God for the sake of the rewards, your journey will be long and difficult.

You know God exist, but you don't know Him
You have to have a relation with God and that comes through His Son Jesus.
Jesus said. "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except by Me."
You have to believe Jesus is your Savior, He died on the cross for your sins and God raised Him from the dead so that we will have eternal life.
Ask Jesus into your heart, tell Him you know you are a sinner,
and ask Him to forgive you.
You have to be sincere and mean it with all your heart.
Jesus knows our hearts.
If you are sincere He will send the Holy Spirit as He promised.

Maybe you need a different church. Try visiting several other churches and see if you can find one that makes you feel different.
I do know that God exists, and what anybody else says about that does not matter.

You might be bored because (a) you dont relate to the music, (b) the sermon topics are not relevant to you in your particular stage of life, or (c) the sermons are watered down theologically so you dont feel you are learning anything from them.
Church services tend to be social /communal events (in a sense) and so they tend to cater to human needs that are more commonly experienced by women (social/communal needs) and less to needs/interests experienced by men (to be working on a project etc, rather than sitting in a pew).
Jesus' teaching style was oriented towards both men and women (more so than today's church styles)...
My recommendation could be to get involved in a men's Bible study group; or in a small group; or in a men's project through church (e.g., helping build houses for the poor; or a missions trip with a group of men; or helping people in your church who need their houses painted, or cars fixed, or lawns mowed).
Part of the emphasis of the reformation (and the monastic service-orders prior to that) was that labor performed in the name of Christ is = worship... and that worship is not just sitting in a church pew (though that is also needed for teaching, and for communal worship etc)...
Cordially,
John

Because you are questioning the whole thing at some level. Most of it defies logic. You have fear of being under the control of a church or belief system instead of using your own mind. You have more thinking to do, with an open mind!
