A worship service should have worship songs and not songs you hear on a Contemporary Christian radio stations. There isn't very many worship songs on Contemporary Christian radio stations well there is some but not a lot of them. Well people can sing along to the song or not sing with the song. It's their choice if they choose to sing the song or not.

First of all, I could probably tear about any "contemporary Christian" music some theologically, and show its bad theology and doctrine. Not all of them, just the majority of the ones I hear on the radio. I'm okay with a happy mixture, and even just some of the old school gospel. I also don't think we have to sing along with the songs, but if we do, lets actually do it, and not do it half heartily.

I see no reason why a worship services cannot do well with only contemporary music IF there are enough worshippers who want an all-contemporary service. This assumes that the songs are selected for their suitability to fit in to the theme and they 're reasonably easy to sing.
I think there should definitely be some singing because it involves hte worshippers in raising their voices to God. It would seem like something was missing to me if there was no singing!

I certainly think there is a place for "purely contemporary music" BUT it is NOT always well received by some people if you are talking about an established church. Due to this there may need to be a com premise of hymn songs with contemporary. As for the second part of your question; personally I sing with accomapaniment tracks and I would go nuts if I had to simply listen to others. Don't get me wrong I enjoy listening and others tell me they enjoy listening to me but I think it is important for a congregation to take part by singing as well. This is how many people connect to God on a personal level and they may not have the gift to sing for everyone else but they certainly should have the opportunity to share the song with their participation.

The worship service is for praise, all Praise songs are appropriate contemporary or not, the old standards still have the power to move me. I like a mix of both. There is music that calls for really listening for the message it conveys & there are praise songs that move you to lift your hands in admiration & sing His praises, even the joy of dancing! When the Holy Spirit leads, there within is the Power of Praises! Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.

Praise music is suppose to bring you into an attitude of worship. So to keep it pumping like a radio station might be a bit much. That is why you need a good worship leader.
Sing along, hum, or just stand there. It's the heart that counts. Right?

At our worship service we do many songs, not just contemporary, but also the other ones, and to me, I LOVE to sing along with the music, it is part of worship, but I don't min when someone isn't singing along. It all has to do with HOW you worship God, not everyone is going to worship the same way, but it is still worship. If while everyone is singing you meditate on the words and you lift them up in your heart to God as a prayer, then that is just as much worshipping as the guy next to you who is singing with all his heart, hands raised, eyes closed and dancing. God pays attention to your worship and your attitude during such, not what everyone else is thinking. He doesn't have us vote on how each other worship.

I like a mixture of contemporary and Southern gospel music. I do like to sing along as it makes me a part of the service.

Well..there are many ways to worship the Lord and I don't think he only likes a certain type of music.
Either the musicians and singers are true worshipers or they are not.. If they are..you could have a washboard and a comb and bring Glory to God on those!
Its good to sing along with the music, because you are confirming the words in your heart when you sing.

I never looked at worship music this way. The lyrics of the songs matter to me the most because it's like singing a prayer to God.
