Try reducing the liquid content by half and add sour cream instead. The sour cream will add enough moisture and help mask the taste of those nasty instant potatoes. Better yet, buy pre-made mashed potatoes from the refrigerated section in the grocery store. While they do have preservatives, they are at least real mashed potatoes if you don't have time to fix the real thing on your own.

Instant potatoes are so salty. Add some sour cream or cream cheese to cut the saltiness.

Try this brand, Paradise Valley. It has no additives and minimal salt. This product tastes like the real deal and is fluffy like real mashed potatoes.

To make them taste like real mashe potatoes you add lots of butter and just enough salt. And a little milk. You put a lot of instant flakes in the mix so they'll be clumpy so they will taste and look like real mashed potatoes.

I mash a little cauliflower into them. Also lots of times the thing that makes them so instant tasting is actually the texture. Add anything that will give it a different mouth feel.

You're not having a Dan Quayle moment. The plural spelling of potato IS potatoes. Look it up!

It is important to add enough water or stock for the potato to be totally rehydrated. Add a little butter and milk, salt and pepper to it. You could add finely diced sweated onions to it too if liked.

funny thing is they taste best if you use the instructions on the box the best thing to do is try different brands, and add just a bit of butter on them after mixed up ,but real potatoes are just as easy and fast to make really just slice them thin and they cook in no time if your in a hurry try timing it and you will see not much longer
