I'm going to be in washington d.c. and then will be traveling to new york. What train am i supposed to catch to get their. And how do i make reservations?

If you're flexible with time and have a limited budget I suggest taking what's commonly known as a Chinatown bus. Runs from major cities with Chinatowns to others. Fast and cheap. Don't worry a lot of non-Chinese use the buses too, mostly students. I don't know where in DC they are but the main stop in NYC is outside a big Buddhist temple on the corner of Houston and Bowery. http://www.chinatown-bus.com/

Amtrak is the way to go by train from Washington, DC to NY.
You can do it online or at Union Station, just go purchase a ticket.

Amtrak. Their Acela trains will get you there quicker.
