sounds like you've taken the first step. You love your family. You want what is best for them don't you?

How come your God doesn't?

It doesn't matter what religion your family is it only matters that you love them. Also, Atheist and Wiccans dont believe in hell so if they aren't worried about it then you shouldn't either. Your family members have found their relgious path and I suppose are happy with it, so don't worry about what other people say. I am a Wiccan myself and my entire family is Christian, so I am constently told that i am going to hell. However, i just tell them that that is their opinion not mine.

I know what you're saying, as I love my family, too. I personally have never believed in hell, even when I considered myself a person of faith. It is inconceivable to me that a truly just God would condemn ordinary people (not serial killers, murderers, or molesters, mind you, just good everyday people) to eternal suffering simply because they happen to be born in a region where the dominant religion is not Christianity, or because their consciences led them to a different faith or moral philosophy. Simply put, if Gandhi is in hell, God is not just.

You should know that there are some Christians who do not believe in eternal punishment. Universalists, for example, believe that all people will be saved.

The Greeks believed you had to do certain things to escape Hades (hell). American Indians had other beliefs. Budhists have a different idea. Of the billions of people that either exist or have existed, only an infinitesimal fraction believe the Christian philosophy of who goes to heaven and who goes to hell. Pretty arrogant for those to believe they know they are right and everyone else is wrong. Reality is that no one knows. I believe that people who are generally good and decent have a lot better chance than those close-minded arrogant fanatics who claim to have all the answers.

I believe in God but strangely I do not believe in the bible. Too many people have edited it and omitted things in the it's production that I refuse to follow it.

In other words, I really don't think your family will end up in hell. I believe that if people are good to each other and have love in their hearts, they will go to heaven. I refuse to believe that God would cast good and friendly people to hell just because they didn't follow a book that many people contributed to or interpreted or for being atheist and wiccan.

Love your family and enjoy whatever religion you choose.

He's looking for good people, not blind followers.

That's so sad Rainbow that you would even feel the need to write such a thing. I'm a Christian and please, stay close to your family. God has told you to honor your father and mother and you will be blessed. Don't let anyone condemn you and please don't believe everything you hear. God is a loving and righteous judge and will work in your life and your family's life for the best, I promise!!!

Maybe you remember Huck Finn. He had been taught that it was a sin to help a slave run away. When Jim ran away, Huck "knew" that it was a sin to help him, and that he should turn Jim in to the authorities. He tried to convince himself to do the "right" thing. Finally, he just decided that he would rather go to hell than betray Jim.
Did he go to hell then? Or was his decision more pleasing to God than conventional obedience?

I love my family too, though it's far from being ideal, or do I feel that the love is returned. Family is very important to me and I will continue loving them and praying for them, that's all I can do.

My entire family is Christian and I'm a Buddhist, they believe that my religion will send me to hell, but they also love me for what I am.

Knock yourself out and and believe what you like and what moves you, that kind of thing makes a person, they will understand..

When Christians tell you that, then you should just say, "Okay, well I guess I'll see you there, because telling me I am going to hell is a sin according to your religious beliefs, only God can judge, remember?" That's what I tell all the people who get on my grandma about going to hell because she is Jewish. They usually stare and then walk away, but this one minister got very mad and started yelling, it was tooo funny.

Keep loving your family and don't let Christian illusion dampen your outlook. If they say you family is going to hell, ask them to prove it. That'll either shut them up or send them into a humorous, biblical tirade.
