To address a couple things:
Yes, Rodney King and this are different. I only used the RK reference to make a setting. This is only one of about a half dozen recent police problems in the past couple months, with officers all over the country going to jail for abusive their position, or using force excessively beyond need. This guy was just dumb.
Is he a cop?: He is a police officer with the City of Chicago. His name is Abbate, google it if you want.

They should let 'Bubba' the inmate take care of him.
NOTE - not all policemen are like this.

This is actually a very common problem in americas system of law enforcement. Many cities have out of control Police Officers, that they protect at all costs, so they do not have to admit that they have a problemed employee. I have spent 10 years in Law Enforcement and I have noticed that the last 5 years agencies have been hiring an a-typical officer. They are usually health and fitness fanatics, former military, short haircuts and they usually come from the same backgrounds. I believe we have accidentally created an atmosphere that encourages the hiring of bullies. We no longer look for the person who is serious about public service. We prefer the former football player that can live 400 pounds, drinks wait gain shakes and runs 26 miles a week. This is not what we need in Law Enforcement. We need to go back to the old days of recruiting people who have a calling and not people who want to bullie people to make themselves feel better. Just my opinion.

I saw that and I think that cop needs to be put away. The most disturbing thing I found about that video, was the two guys who sat there and watched this maniac beat the hell out of that woman. Man throw a barstool. Throw a beermug. Do something! I kept hoping that one of them was going to act like a man.

It's pretty evident that he has no business being in law enforcement. What should happen? If it were up to me, 5 years in the pen.
The comment about it being an entirely different situation than Rodney King was dead on. Two entirely different situations.

That was disturbing! Not only his actions, but the inactions of the other patrons!
He obviously has a drinking problem. Unfortunately, cops are never 'off duty' in their behavior. He'll probably lose his job. How many other jobs are like that?! I'm not a cop, but think it is bull that if they get in a fight, they can lose their jobs.

It is my understanding that this guy has had many other drunken incident's, and the dept has looked the other way. Luckily, he was caught on tape this time. The bartender needs to sue this guy and the dept., and he should be prosecuted, and thrown in prison.

First, to compare to the King incident is wrong...
"can't we all get along King " was high and resisting arrest, and deserved what he got...This case with the female, the cop was off duty but full on criminal and should/will prosecuted to the fullest extent...and he deserves that!!
