I was diagnosed with, schitzo-affective disorder. And i told a few of my friends. And they didnt believe me until i showed them my Papers and everything. They thought that i was just trying to get attention, or trying to make excuses for why i was always missing from school, etc. But thats why i dont tell no one about it anymore,i dont want no pity. And im scared to tell people because what if they get scared of me and think of me different. But im a harmless person. oh yea,the reason for me asking this question is, im now in a relationship, but i dont know how to tell him or anyone else about my mental disorder. And i also want to tell a few new friends. Alot of people nowdays try and lie about them having illness' so they can try and act "crazy",but i am not lying. I Wish i wasnt diagnosed with it to begin with. ..But anyone have any advice?

Unless it affects the way you live your life just keep it to yourself. Are you on meds? Do you see a doctor regularly? If you are & you really want to tell them just mention a doctor's appointment or getting meds refilled & if they ask why tell them.

I agree with the other write in (Keep) it to your self for now . that is not something that you just go around telling folks .
You r seeling help right ? or taking medication for your illness ? Your not ling to them by not telling them alote of folks more then you would think have some type of emotional or mentel diagnoses now a days . I think every other person in America has By-Polar .Don't be so free with your info

I would advise you to not tell people about it. It is no one's business. As you go through life you will find that some things are just not shared. This is one of them. You should talk to your parents and see what they think about you sharing this with others. I just don't want you to get hurt because you told the wrong person. When it comes to your health you have a right to privacy, that includes your mental health.

i think you can tell people you trust, love yourself don't be ashamed of it, it is a part of you,it is who you are. you don't have to stand up and yell out to everyone saying you have a mental disorder, just take it one day at a time. if someone asks you why are you acting like this or acting like that maybe you can tell them if you want if you don't want to tell them anything you don't have to

It is best to keep to yourself until you are in a serious relationship. Some people will use it against you. Sad but true.
