And why?

Collars yank the dogs neck. A harnass will lift the dogs front legs off the floor. A harness is better for bigger dogs as long as it is correctly fitted. Good Luck.

They definately need to wear a collar at all times with somesort of id tags so that if your dog gets out people know that the dog is owned by someone and can try to find you. But when your walking a harness is much better and more comfortable for your dog. The harness stops you from choking the dog if it is a puller when walking, it also helps to have a harness if your dog travels in the car. The dog will be safe in an accident and will not distract you as a driver.

For walking, a harness is great. It can help you train your dog not to pull on you as you walk.
With that said I believe that all dogs still need collars and here is why. You can attach a dogtag onto a collar that has your contact information on it in case your dog gets lost. I just had my dog get lost and it happened that the day before somehow my dog ruined it's collar. I had bought a new collar the night before and had put it's dogtag onto it. Well before I could put it back on her, she got out. If she had it on her, I would have been notified about her sooner. Plus you don't want to keep a harness on your dog all the time but you can leave a collar on them all the time.

depends on the dog. I have a gentle dog and a collar on her is fine. The other has a neck the same size of his head and he can jump once and the collar is off his neck because I can not make it tight. So a harness is best for him.
A broad dog may be to stout to have the harness fit tight enough. I have seen dogs who basically can step out of a harness

I use both. The collar just for their tags and a harness when ever I'm walking them or letting out on the leash. Both my dogs have collapse trachea's and the harness helps eliminate choking as much.

To me the most humane for man's best friend is a body harness. the collar tend to choke some. You get a better controlling grip with the harness also while being more gentler.

I think that it would depend on the size of your dog. Little dogs work better with harness and big dogs with collars. This way you can control them better.

i use choke chains on dogs for training(does not hurt if use rightand don't use as a main collar as choking can happen when left alone.) for any size.

If ur dog is a puller harnesses are only going to aid him in 'walking u' and yes even small dogs can walk thier owner. dog pull with their chest so the harness goes over the chest so pulling is made easier for him and harder for u. If the dog is trained and u want the dog to learn to pull a cart or some thing then yes by all means use a harness and a choke chain, to keep dog at side..unless well its a sled dog.

For dogs just using leashes, collars work best. It pulls their head in the direction they're supposed to go. Harnesses work fine on a leash trained dog, I guess it's whatever you like.

I use a collar for my dogs for their tags only, a harness for their leash. A harness is much safer, it does not choke the dog.
