a credit agency came in contact with me about a debt supposily from when i was in the military and when i got paid and discharged, they said they overpaid me. can they accually come after me if i have paperwork showing that everything was paid off the day i was discharged. they said there was some mix up, and i owe them. but how was i suppose to know after 2+ yrs after being discharged, and my paperwork shows no such debt at all. what do i do, and who to i contact?

Definately research your options, maybe with an attorney. Also, if they have reported the debt to the credit bureaus, you can send a letter to each of the bureaus with your proof of payment paperwork to be added to your file as a dispute until its all settled. That way, if someone pulls your report, the negative debt being disputed will not reflect negatively.

I would write them and enclose a COPY of the proof that you have. That should take care of it. Good Luck!
