they where called ARK mostly this vehicles where build on the Churchill tank where the turret was removed and on the front and the back there where ramps that could be lowered. On the hull of the tank there was a trackway so a vehicle could clime on the tank hull through the ramp on one side run over the trackway and on the other side leave the ark through the second pair of ramps .
A ark was used in riverbeds, to brides a crater or to make it possible to mount a obstacle for other vehicles.
The ark together with other " specials " was mostly used in Italy and in Normandy after D-day and where known as the " Hobart Funnies"
The Brits army did also some experiments with other tanks like the Matilda and the valentine but the hull of the Churchill proof to be the most suited
