I want to get a tat on my hip and currently have on my lower back some script about 5centimetres long so want to avoid script on my hip as then I may end up looking like a book.

any ideas on how i can have my surname but in symbols?

Does your last name have any particular meaning? If it's something you or your artist could make aesthetically pleasing, that might be a possibility. If you want something more abstract, you could have a picture reflecting some particular traits or hobbies that run in your family, or just something you all tend to enjoy doing together. Your tattoo could represent your family name even if it doesn't spell it out. Good luck!

Grrr! I am so tired of seeing people who disapprove of tattoos answering these questions. And I bet they'd be too intimidated to say it to us tat/body mod enthusiasts to our faces.

Anyhoo...back on topic...
I guess I hear you about script, but I don't really see anything wrong with looking like a book. Books are good! ;) I really like the appearance of Japanese and Hebrew caligraphy-even tho I opted for the Hebrew meaning of my name written in Japanese caligraphy...I think on the hip, something like that would be very sexy.

If you don't know what you want to be on your body forever you better not spoil what might be a pretty part of your body by inking it up.
