One by Creed.
Affirmative may be justified take from one give to another
The goal is to be unified take my hand be my brother
The payment silenced the masses sanctified by oppression
Unity took a back seat sliding further into regression
One, the only way is one...
I feel angry, I feel helpless, want to change the world
I feel violent, I feel alone, don't try and change my mind
Society blind by color, why hold down one to raise another?
Discrimination now on both sides seeds of hate blossom further
The world is heading for mutiny, when all we want is unity
We may rise and fall, but in the end we meet our fate together

Ok I thought long and hard about this. I have two. Crazy train and Dreamer. by Ozzy.Gazing through the window at the world outside
Wondering if mother earth will survive
Hoping that mankind will stop abusing her, sometime
After all theres just the two of us
And here we are still fighting for our lives
Watching all of history repeat itself, time after time
Im just a dreamer, I dream my life away
Im just a dreamer, who dreams of better days
I watch the sun go down like everyone of us
Im hoping that the dawn will bring a sign
A better place for those who will come after us this time
Im just a dreamer, I dream my life away, oh yeah
Im just a dreamer, who dreams of better days
Your higher power may be God or jesus christ
It doesnt really matter much to me
Without each others help there aint no hope for us
Im living in a dream, a fantasy
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah
If only we could just find serenity
It would be nice if we could live as one
When will all this anger, hate and bigotry be gone?
Im just a dreamer, I dream my life away, today
Im just a dreamer, who dreams of better days, ok
Im just a dreamer, whos searching for the way, today
Im just a dreamer, dreaming my life away
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah
Crazy, but thats how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
Maybe its not to late
To learn how to love
And forget how to hate
Mental wounds not healing
Lifes a bitter shame
Im going off the rails on a crazy train
Ive listened to preachers
Ive listened to fools
Ive watched all the dropouts
Who make their own rules
One person conditioned to rule and control
The media sells it and you have the role
Mental wounds still screaming
Driving me insane
Im going off the rails on a crazy train
I know that things are going wrong for me
You gotta listen to my words
Yeh-h
Heirs of a cold war
Thats what weve become
Inheriting troubles Im mentally numb
Crazy, I just cannot bear
Im living with something that just isnt fair
Mental wounds not healing
Who and whats to blame
Im going off the rails on a crazy train

there have been some solid ones suggested already (commonly imagine, and Sounds of Silence), yet i will follow the single in my solutions profile: undesirable faith - Do What you opt for "...hi i don't understand if the billions will proceed to exist, yet i will believe in God at the same time as a million and a million are 5."

'What a Wonderful World' is also cliche, but what the heck, nobody has suggested it yet. George Harrison, 'All Things Must Pass' is also lovely. Arlo Guthrie also wrote some great religiously oriented songs (Gabriel's Mother's Highway Ballad #16 Blues, anyone?)
The winner as far as songs that illuminate and honor specific religions for me, though, is probably someone unexpected: Warren Zevon wrote some beautiful, mystical songs: 'I Was in the House When the House Burned Down' and 'My Ride's Here' both offer a gorgeous look at Christianity, and 'Mohammed's Radio' is as equally beautiful a look at Islam.
"I Was in the House When the House Burned Down":
I had the sh!t till it all got smoked
I kept the promise till the vow got broke
I had to drink from the lovin' cup
I stood on the banks till the river rose up
I saw the bride in her wedding gown
I was in the house when the house burned down
I may be old and I may be bent
But I had the money till it all got spent
I had the money till they made me pay
Then I had the sense to be on my way
I had to stay in the underground
I was in the house when the house burned down
I was in the house when the house burned down
I met the man with the thorny crown
I helped Him carry his cross through town
I was in the house when the house burned down
I was in the house when the house burned down
I met the man with the thorny crown
I helped Him carry his cross through town
I was in the house when the house burned down
I had the sh!t till it all got smoked
I kept the promise till the vow got broke
I had to drink from the lovin' cup
I stood on the banks till the river rose up
I saw the bride in her wedding gown
I was in the house when the house burned down
"My Ride's Here":
I was staying at the Marriott with Jesus and John Wayne
I was waiting for a chariot; they were waiting for a train
The sky was full of carrion - "I'll take the mazuma,"
Said Jesus to Marion, "That's the 3:10 to Yuma.
My ride's here..."
The Houston sky was changeless; we galloped through bluebonnets
I was wrestling with an angel; you were working on a sonnet
You said, "I believe the seraphim will gather up my pinto
And carry us away, Jim, across the San Jacinto
My ride's here..."
Shelley and Keats were out in the street
And even Lord Byron was leaving for Greece
While back at the Hilton, last but not least
Milton was holding his sides
Saying, "You bravos had better be ready to fight
Or we'll never get out of East Texas tonight
The trail is long and the river is wide and my ride's here"
I was staying at the Westin; I was playing to a draw
In walked Charlton Heston with the Tablets of the Law
He said, "It's still the Greatest Story"; I said, "Man, I'd like to stay
But I'm bound for glory - I'm on my way
My ride's here..."
"Mohammed's Radio":
Everybody's restless and they've got no place to go
Someone's always trying to tell them something they already know
So their anger and resentment flow
But don't it make you want to rock and roll all night long
Mohammed's Radio
I heard somebody singing sweet and soulful on the radio
Mohammed's Radio
You know, the Sheriff's got his problems too
He will surely take them out on you
In walked the village idiot and his face was all aglow
He's been up all night listening to Mohammed's Radio
Don't it make you want to rock and roll all night long
Mohammed's Radio
I heard somebody singing sweet and soulful on the radio
Mohammed's Radio
Everybody's desperate trying to make ends meet
Work all day, still can't pay the price of gasoline and meat
Alas, their lives are incomplete
Don't it make you want to rock and roll all night long
Mohammed's Radio
I heard somebody singing sweet and soulful on the radio
Mohammed's Radio
You've been up all night listening for his drum
Hoping that the righteous might just, might just, might just come
I heard the General whisper to his aide-de-camp
"Be watchful for Mohammed's lamp"
Don't it make you want to rock and roll all night long
Mohammed's Radio
I heard somebody singing sweet and soulful on the radio
Mohammed's Radio
There are probably other songs he wrote on religion that were complimentary (Porcelain Monkey aside), and others that are atheistic that are good (a la Life'll Kill Ya), but these were too nice and interesting not to share, and occurred to me for the question, so there you go.
ETA: Also Great Big Sea, 'Ordinary Day,' just occurred to me. I won't spam more lyrics, but: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/greatbigsea/ordinaryday.html - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AvkyHCU7XU for the video. It's a rugby video but oh well, the song is certainly uniting.

Allon enfants de la Patri,
Le Jour de Gloire, est arrive"
Thats even better than anything Lenno wrote - they sang it just as they led the Aristocrats to "Le Guillotine", and then united them with their heads...or was that dis-united? I forget

One of my favorite religious song is
"Sympathy for the Devil" by the Rolling Stones.
If you think it's praising the devil then you never read the words or listened to it.
I guess it was the Stones way of a religious song in reverse.

Well idiot, what is wrong with this song? Imagine is the answer. What would your rather hear, the coke commercial song or "come on people smile on your brother every body get together and love one another right now, or Cocaine? Imagine is the best way of putting the word out on how to unite humanity. Oh and there's always Kooooombyah my love, koooooombyah...........boooooring.
