i can NOT believe that The Oriental Hotel has not been brought up. the lady said she had an UNLIMITED budget. there is not a respected hotel publication that doesnt rank The Oriental in the top 5 hotels in the WORLD. The Oriental has an area where awards given to it for the best hotel in the world and best hospitality in the world cover all four walls ....... cases with trophies. from the moment you get out of 7 series BMW that was waiting for you at the airport ...... you are treated as if you are kings and queens. the best part is, the rooms are incredibly cheap. i just stayed in a junior suite at the Bacara in Santa Barbara, CA for a bit over $700 a night. the lowest price room at The Oriental CRAPPED ALL OVER that junior suite at the Bacara, and for $300 less. absolutely stunning rooms with Phraya River views with the best hospitality from the most hospitable people in the world (the Thais) .... for under $400 a night ....... and this hotel is not mentioned ???????? holy toledo !!!!!!! so stay in Bangkok a few days .... see the Grand Palace, go shopping, cruise around on the river ...... and stay at The Oriental.

after that ...... these guys have some good ideas. Chiang Mai is beatiful, as is all of northern Thailand. and guess what ..... youre in luck !!!!!!!! The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has a resort in Chiang Mai. being its a resort it will cost a bit more, i believe for indivdual villas (which are large) are around $750 a night .... maybe a bit more. i know somebody who is extremely rich and has been to nearly anyplace anybody would ever want to go and stayed at the best resorts when she went there .... who told me the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi resort in Chiang Mai was the most beautiful shes ever seen. and of course you get the typical Mandarin Oriental hospitality. in the north you can visit the Golden Triangle, Myanmar, Chiang Rai and the hill tribes, elephant shows and rides, snake shows (you can even touch a king cobra), monkey shows ..... with nothing but banana trees and monkeys in between, well ok ...... and teak trees.

the NE of Thailand is beautiful in its own way ..... but i dont reccommend it for first timers, the Phimai ruins are stunning, but too far out of your way from what you should be doing, and thats getting to the south after spending the first 10-12 days in Bangkok and the north. after yove done all of the ablove, go to Phuket. contact a company through your hotel called Phuket Adventures .... they will take you to Phi Phi Islands, where you will see wonderful limestone rock formations, along with crystal clear water as you snorkle next to exotic fish in warm water. WARNING ...... when you check in to the dock for the trip, there is a basket next to the cash register with little individually wrapped pills. take one for you and one for your husband (congrats by the way, just got married myself). they are for sea sickness ....... the ride gets EXTREMELY rough for about 40 minutes as they go through a channal after the second stop. keep in mind, they take this route every day, and never lose a boat, so think of it as a roller coaster ride ...... oh ...... and it might be best to stay away from the back of the boat at this point ...... it seems as if thats where the pukers always seem to try and go. as for where to stay in Phuket, it depends what youre looking for. i prefered seclusions from the tourists to be alone with my wife (fiancee at the time). i stayed at the Andaman Sea White Sands Resort. nice villas right on the beach, literally walk out your door and youre on the beach. if youre looking for more 5 star action ...... Laguna is the place to be, cant go wrong with a Laguna address. if you still have time left after youve worn out Phuket and the surrounding islands ..... Ko Samui is beautfil from everything ive heard, only i cant help you there because i havent been able to cross it off my list yet ...... next trip ..... next trip. lol.

hope that helps and ill include links to the hotels ive mentioned

ps - spanky normally has good input and does here as well ..... but do not be mistaken ..... there is no such thing as a 5 star hotel in Thailand for $25 a night.

pss - i just noticed after i posted that The Oriental was brought up ..... ooops, my bad. lol.

Hi, congrats on your honeymoon. I must say you have an pretty good place to spend your honeymoon. I like it best when you say your budget is unlimited. But in Thailand, you need not spend a lot to have a good holiday.

Seeing as how you will be in Thailand during the hot and rainy season, I will suggest that you make Chiangmai as your first stopover. From Bangkok, there will be many flights to bring you there.

For your honeymoon, Four Season Resort and Spa will be a fine choice. Located amidst rice fields, you still get your privacy during your stay. Be pampered by the spa service as only the Thais know how. Inform the hotel early about your intention, they can arrange a nice honeymoon couple spa packages for the 2 of you. Just relax and enjoy yourselves.

From there, I will recommend a stay at Mae Sa Valley.. Place is not expensive, but it is located in the mountains and is usually covered in mist. A little isolated, your handphone might not work there. But you will have quality together as a couple and enjoy the beautiful scenery. There is a Royal Botanic Garden just next to the hotel, so you can enjoy the beautiful flora whenever you want to. If you like, the hotel has a art and craft village that can show you some local handicrafts and you can even try your hands too. Peace and quiet just for the 2 of you.

From here, take a trip to the northern province of Chiangrai and stay at the Golden Triangle. Anantara Resort and Spa is where to get pampered in delightful surroundings. Visit to the Opium Museum and again, couple spa treatment for the 2 of you.

From there, make your way back to Chiangmai for your flight to Bangkok and Phuket. Check into the Zeavola Resort in Phi Phi Island in Krabi. Place has beautiful beach and crystal clear waters.and you can just relax with the lovely sunsets and water activities, as well as resort pampering. By now after a few days, you will have run out of time and will have to make your way home. But I guess you will have a memorable honeymoon.

First of all, I live here in Thailand, and I totally agree with Spanky that Pattaya is not the place you want to go on your honeymoon, it's the raunchiest place in Thailand, if not the world. Having said that, two and a half weeks should give you plenty of time to visit a few different areas of the country. I would spend some time in Chiang Mai, check out the Four Seasons Chiang Mai, located just outside the city, rated by Travel and Leisure Magazine as the 11th best hotel in the world. I would also spend some time in Bangkok, I think either the Peninsula Hotel (rated 4th in world by T&L) or the Oriental (rated 9th in world), both located on the Chao Praya River would be great for honeymooners. I've been to all three of the above hotels and they truly deserve their world-class ratings. After Bangkok, I would consider the Banyan Tree Resort (rated 33rd in the world) or the JW Marriot among others in Phuket, both are located a short drive from the main tourist area of Patong and are secluded yet close to nightlife, shopping etc., and have their own private beaches. Krabi, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Samui among others are other beach areas you might want to look into. As far as what to do, check out http://www.tourismthailand.org/ or other tourist websites, they can tell you much more than I can. I don't believe there are any holidays or national festivals in Sept., but maybe locally in some areas. The hotels and resorts I listed are quite expensive by Thai standards, but very reasonable by western standards, and the quality of service and hospitality in Thailand is possibly the best in the world. Congratulations and have a great trip.

Oh, you have picked a wonderful place to Honeymoon - - The beaches are gorgeous [ except Pattaya which IMHO is one of the worst in Thai ] - go to Krabi, Phi Phi - Phuket - - then, depending on what you are looking for - you might just want to chill out there the whole time.. If you want something more cultural and historic, go north - Sukhothai - a couple of lovely hotels there and even my small city has a nice 5 star hotel for $25 a night w/buffet breakfast... well, just depends if you want to do stuff or hang out on the beach - - either way, you will have a great time here... feel free to contact me if you want any specific advice on locales based on your interests..

As a frequent visitor to Thailand, I would strongly recommend you go to Pattaya. The city is just about 2 hours drive by taxi or coach from the Suvarnabhumi International Airport outside Bangkok. A taxi ride should cost you about US $25 one-way for two passengers.

Pattaya has excellent tourism infrastructure and has romantic beaches and mountains nearby- the Khao Khew (green mountain in Thai). There are very good resorts available in Pattaya at extremely reasonable rates.

My personal favorite is the Peace Resort which consists of cottage type rooms with all amenities such as TV with US, European, Aussie channels, free breakfast which is wonderful and shopping and tourist attractions, including the renowned Pattaya Beach all located nearby.

From Pattaya, you can also fly by Royal Bangkok Airways to Phuket, an island in the Andaman Sea. Here, the best resort to stay is Amari, which offers gorgeous sea-front rooms. Phuket also has a major attraction- the Phantasyland- with excellent cultural shows every evening.

For a honeymoon, other areas of Thailand such as Udon Thani or Chiang Mai are best avoided since they are over-run by what are politely called senior citizens- looking for cheap sex, often with underaged Thai girls.

i traveled in October normally monsoon season, but we had awesome weather
i did the hill tribes of Thailand, which is impossible to wing it, i did it through a reputable company and it was like a national geographic experience, especial the long neck women of Karen, which you go by invitation only as it is on a river and you need to take a Jameson long boat and sleep in a hut over a babbling brook while the Siamese children entertain you by candle light. we went to Chang Mai Chang rai, river quai (shocking great shopping opportunity)
we stayed from luxury in Bangkok to rustic escape from reality lodges, to nice small friendly hotels . you all ways can get a 5 dollar massage anywhere with no appointment awesome. they include most meals site seeing and i found atms and Internet cafes every where (except the night with the Karen tribe
p.s the peninsula in Bangkok is over the top 2 suites per floor butler and at the time 129 a night. try that in Manhattan

Peanutz has given the best advice possible.

As far as Pattaya, stay as far away from that as you can.

If you have never been to Thailand and want to get a realistic feel for it before your trip, visit www.visualthailand.com, which has 1000's of current photos of all the attractions with no advertising.

One place I recommend which is the most romantic beach in the world is Koh Lipe, see some photos here http://www.visualthailand.com/beaches.php

This is lovers paradise for sure.
