I got a small tattoo on my wrist. It didn't hurt all that much because it is a small tattoo. My skin did get a little aggravated, but It wasn't bad. Wrist tattoo's in my opinion are cute and I recommend it.

Ok I got my first tat when I was 17. Its Kanji for the word "Bear" and that was on my left shoulder. I got another one a few years later, on the other shoulder that is also Kanji for "Taurus" (gotta love the birthsign). But the BEST ones that I got were the sun and moon entwined on my left calf, the angel wings with the cross and heart on my right calf, my last name spelled out across my back, and my latest piece is a sleeve in progress of stars and crashing waves on my upper left arm. I would say that if you wanted to start small, check out tattoodles.com and see what they have. They do have a good selection, and you can always change the colors if you decided to get a colored tat. The one that hurt the worst for me was getting WORTHINGTON spelled out across my lower back. Not because it was uncomfortable or anything, but because it is spelled out right across my hip bone and the spinal column, which was painful to me, but might not be to you.
The calf ones hurt the less, and it was fun because I was able to watch Ryan work!! Thats always an awesome thing to see art take form.
Good luck with finding a tat that you want and congradulations!! Welcome to the world of body art!

Please do me a fovor & don't get a tattoo somewhere based on where it hurt or did not hurt someone else, the pain is sooo totally dif for all of us... Just get it somewhere that will fit your personality and be practical for your lifestyle..... Simply nobody can tell you where will be the best place for you because everybody interprets pain differently, so check out the spots you feel most comfy with & go from there.....
That's how I picked all of my placements, comfort/style/& my life....

Honestly, they all hurt. Some hurt less or more, but don't get placement based on pain. The pain is temporary, the art is permanent. Choose where you want it based on reasons other than pain and you'll be fine.
A star isn't complicated so it will go fast.

Speaking from experience.... the top of foot, hipbone, and near the spine. I guess anywhere that isnt covered in a good layer of fat/muscle!
The other thing is if you get a smallish tatt and its black then it may involve a lot of outlining which is the most painful part of the tatt process. The shading in is the easy bit and general doesnt hurt all that much.
Goodluck with it :)

anywhere with a little bit of fat is good. The closer you are to bone, the more it is going to hurt. Also, on top of well built muscle can hurt. I have gotten a band around my bicep and on top of my foot. The arm hurt b/c of the muscle. The foot hurt because of the bone. I have 7 and love every bit of the pain, it is an acquired enjoyment.

Think Before You Ink
Hurts more near bone
Less on heavy muscle
Where??
Where you can see it,
and enjoy having it.
Or hide it if need be.
Having a tattoo on top
of your hand at a job
interview is not cool.
Your artist can help you
with the placement.

i just got my 2nd tattoo last week on my back, and it seriously almost put me to sleep...i consider myself a wimp, and it really wasn't that bad at all...i got it on the center of my back, a few inches below my neck. i also have one on the back of my leg, which hurt a lot more...
but you shouldn't worry about the pain, and just get it where you want!
