i'm in a band with some of my friends and we hava a gig at my house outside. So we need to build a stage. We need it pretty big, but also kind of basic. Please help

3/4 plywood on top of 2x4s on edge. You'll need to cross brace the top with 2x4s every two feet at least. Legs cut to your desired height from 2x4s with a bracing angle from the bottom of the leg to the top of the platform, and additional 2x4s connecting the bottom of the legs so they don't buckle.

Any basic book on stagecraft will give you the basic idea.

You'll need a book on decks for the stage. You don't want to cut corners because you could be liable for any injuries that may result from a poorly designed stage. The how-to book is the best way to go because you'll have references through out the whole project. Have fun!

suck it up and perform on the ground. next try cartwheels on hot pavement for an hour, festival in a gym with another band about to start and blow your noise right out the window, microphone failures, 450 screaming 8 year olds. then maybe we'll talk.

I once used a trailer for a stage at a yard party. that went pretty good.

If its a single gig, you should rent platforms. It will save you money, time and a lot of hassles.
