Prescribed dosage of a medication I've taken for over 20 years suddenly left me with overwhelming desire to sleep. It happened once before and my doctor said at all costs I must stay awake. I did, and learned that the mediction can without warning shoot up in some inidividuals creating toxicity that if it is high enough will lead to coma, then sure death. In the emergency room the next day--I'd waited, since I was unsure I was having a reaction to the medicine, until after that night when I had to force myself awake--my serum level was 9/10ths point away from a point of inducing a coma. Now, I find that I've depleted my stamina and wasted my body through this event, days before toxitcity discovered, now two weeks after while I did without all medication until slowly I could reintroduce it.

My question is this: Do you, for any reason, have a similar experience to relate of a close brush with death due to strong medication, not, please, illicit drug overdoses.

It is certainly possible to have a toxic reaction to a medicine, even one you've been taking for a long period of time. All meds carry a risk of side effects, including toxicity and overdosage. Also, there is a danger of drug interaction if you are taking more than one prescription, OTC or even supplements. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist to see if what you're taking is not mixing well with other drugs, or if you should reduce the dosage of what you're taking. There is always a potential for serious side effects or allergic reactions with any medications. Now that this has happened to you, your doctor may change or alter your prescription. In any event, proceed with caution when introducing any new drugs into your system. Good luck!
