Run with the beat, not the melody or the lyrics!!

I have made an ipod play list with several of Scott Joplins ragtime songs played on modern instruments. I also have several contempory bluegrass and flaminco guitar instrumentals.

In my marathon training runs, I have found that instrumentals are less distractive and make for a more upbeat run.

Beyond that, pick music that makes you feel good when you're not running an I'm sure the same music will carry you well into your daily routines.

Check out iTunes and the Nike Sport Music. They have actually gone through the trouble of figuring out specific tunes that will work within your workout. From what I read they actually composed these originally using lyrics and beats that will make your workout, or in your case run, go by faster and smoother.

They also have coaches and voice-over instruction added into the custom mix of music. It's a really neat way to combine that motivation and music into your ipod from the king Nike.

It obviously depends on your taste of music.
If you're taste goes more towards the harder rock spectrum, i would say to try some avenged sevenfold or dragonforce. For me, anything decently upbeat does it such as Red Hot Chili Peppers which isnt anything hard, its just rock. Some people even like rap, although i cant reccomend it because i hate it.
