This is not unusual. But if you want to get out of it fast, get on a regular physical routine - but not at bedtime - and make it a good workout.
Listen to upbeat music - music is mood altering.
Watch a National Lampoon movie or something that will make you laugh.
Be around people as much as you can.
Lay off the sugar and caffeine
Eat a snack of turkey in the evening.

If you believe or suspect there is something physical happening, get to a clinic.

Talk to your doctor and try and find out what's making it hard for you to sleep.I had the same problem and it turned out to be 2 separate things causing it.It could be sleep apnea or your thyroid or maybe it's just too noisy. If you don't get enough exercise during the day you won't be tired enough to sleep at night.A fan is really nice to use at night,it blocks out all other sounds and the sound itself is soothing. Is your bed uncomfortable? If so this could also be a problem,it's hard to sleep in an uncomfortable bed.Try to stay away from sleeping pills though their not good for you and if anything happens in the night like a fire or someone breaks in you won't be able to wake up in time to save yourself and sleeping pills are bad for you as well.Cut back on caffeine during the day and don't smoke or drink all these can lead to insomnia.I like to eat something before I go to bed so I don't wake up hungry,an apple or some grapes is good or maybe a salad.Hope you start feeling better soon.
