Why do men when sitting next to you spead their legs as wide as possible and take up your space and also put their arms out so they go into you. I feel like i cant move and have no space, some women do this as well, why do they do this and how can i prevent this from happening again? I put my arms out and this guy put his elbow on mine and wouldnt move , then he gave me a nasty look and would not get his elbow off of mine.. it was gross.

Oh my goodness this is such a good question! I have to star you!! I honestly do not understand it either I think men do it more often.To be honest in NYC as you know already there are a ton of whackos and a part of me thinks that some of these guys are just nuts but the main reason they do it is because they do not care! On the NYC subway system there is no concept of personal space. Women with their shopping bags and huge purses and men with their legs open. It is the most annoying thing ever! I would say ask someone nicely to move over or close their legs but in NYC that could get you in a hospital so just grin and bear it and pray your train ride is express instead of local! I hope this helps.

Pelvic size and anatomy. Ask an OB GYN about it. Generally, men tend to have more straight hips, therefore when opposed in sitting, it takes more effort to keep them closed. Women tend to have inward legs [even slightly] this even affects their running efforts versus men. Again, anatomy will guide you.
