Take my bf of 5 yrs back after he says he's unsure about us and needs his space?

My bf decided to go on a "break" a few months back. We still hung out every other day and acted like everything was fine. So, we stopped the break a few wks later. But during this time he began talking to a girl online. He began saying "I love you" and "I miss you" to her and giving her petnames. I noticed he had become a little distant from me and I just blamed it on the fact that he was just adjusting to a new job at the night shift. But when i read text messages on his phone to and from this girl..i got mad. He said that she started to have feelings for him. I told him to break it off before he did something he regret. but a few months later I read even more hurtful messages. This time he told me that he needed his space and that he was tired of always fighting with me and getting me upset. He didnt want a realtionship to be that way I'm his one and only gf...is he doing this because he wantsthat new feeling with someone else or is he scared about comitment now? He's 24 and i'm 21

I forgot to mention that he says he never even met the girl...and that he says he cant just stop talking to her cuz she needs him for his problems. But it hink he's starting to have feelings for her. If he wont leave her for me what does that say? This girl may be the reason why he needs his space. He says he loves me but how can we know we were meant to be if we've only known each other. I don't want to let him go because i love him. He's proven to me that he loved me before, but im afraid his feelings are changing now. What should i do?

He was interested in the other girl and now he's back with you. Maybe things didn't work out with the other girl when you gave him his space. You're both young. Don't be surprised if it happens again. There's a lot of growing up to do.
