My child just turned one. He has an ear infection in each ear, which we've been trying to treat (see my one other question), but lately he's been vomiting and having diarrhea, but does not act like he is sick. He isn't getting woozy, dizzy, or anything before or after he vomits, and he acts fine. The same goes for diarrhea. Anyone had this "problem" before? Could it be his reation to Zithromax?

(I'm asking because I've gotten good, logical advice from Yahoo! users before about parenting, etc., and I am pretty upset with his current doctor [as her suggestions have made my situation go from bad to worse].)

Children can take a lot higher temp than an adult. I wouldn't be alarmed. That being said, with a temp there has to be an infection or a virus. If the child is not better by tomorrow and the fever goes higher then go see a doctor. There is no point in going to the ER unless he is listless and very hot. After all, fever is natures way of fighting infection. It could be as simple as a summer cold. If he has no major complaints I wouldn't get too excited about it. Get well soon, Sweetie(pass it on)

My son (16 months) just finished his last dose of Penicillin today for a double ear infection. He has had bad diarrhea and the doctor told me it was normal and nothing to worry about unless it's very watery. He also threw up just once, and I was worried because I thought he might throw up his medicine. The nurse told me to hold off on the medicine if he continues to throw up and just postpone the next dose. Because it won't do any good anyways. My son seemed just fine, playing and everything. Of course he was on Tylenol, he was a little more tired then usual but seemed just fine.
I just made sure he got plenty of fluids, pedialite and water. They don't complain like adults do when they don't feel good.

Kids react completely different than adults when they're sick...a kid can have a fever of 102 and be behaving as if nothing was wrong...a kid can have a fever of 100 and be acting tired and dizzy...

The kid that's acting sick is more concerning than the kid with the higher fever.

Children tend to act appropriately to how sick they are...only as we grow in to adults do we start to "lay it on thick."

Yes Zithromax can cause diarrhea and vommiting. If it gets to bad you need to call the doctor. Also, Ear infections can cause the diarreah (speaking with an ear infection expert!!..2 kids both had to have tubes).

Sometimes, I also get frustrated with what the doctor says, and I have learned that when it comes to questins about if the medicine is causing this or not to call the pharmacist instead. They could also tell you if there is something that can help releive the diarreah and vomiting.

My son had Rota virus for two weeks and never had a temp. with it - just a lot of vomiting and diarrhea. Bad news is, there is nothing that can be done about it, you have to wait it out. Hope your little one gets better soon.
