If you dispute an item on a credit report and it is not resolved to your satisfaction you are allowed to put up to 100 word response. This is called a consumer statement and by law this does NOT cost you anything to do yourself.

If you contact the credit agencies yourself they will even help you in writting the statement. Just know that this is only seen if someone manually reviews your report. It does not effect the scoreing or any automatic processes.

If you have proof that the credit report is invalid, you can either get it cleared, or you can provide the "proof" and that is available to the companies seeking to get your credit report.

Just an explanation of why you didn't pay a debt is generally not included in your credit report.

Yes, you can. You can also have it automatically sent to those who have recently checked your credit.

"You have a right to add a summary explanation to your credit report if your dispute is not resolved to your satisfaction. You also can ask the consumer reporting company to provide your statement to anyone who received a copy of your report in the recent past. You can expect to pay a fee for this service. "
