i thought i remembered reading once that your 1st baby is usually the biggest and the following babies should be gradually smaller and if they are significantly larger it means the mother has diabetes

I don't think so. My Mum has had 3 children (I am the middle child). My brother who is the eldest was born 6 weeks premature and weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces, I weighed 6 pounds 12ounces 3 weeks premature and my youngest brother was born on time 2 years after me and weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces. My Mum found my youngest brother the most difficult and painful to give birth to because he was so big.

My Dad was born number 3 out of 7 children to my grandma. He weighed 9 pounds 6 ounces and was on time. He was the biggest!

My Mum is a non-smoker (always has been), ate healthily while pregnant and was a healthy weight when she was pregnant (not too fat and not too slim). She doesn't have diabetes either.

Definetly not true. I have had 2 babies, and my first was 6lbs (a week late), and my second 2 days early was 7 lbs 10 oz. I think that is just a myth. Also, I know people that with each baby they got bigger! It just deoends on your genes! Look at how big your moms babies were, you will probably have similar sized babies.

Also...no I do not have diabetes....its just how the babies came.

very false. Babysize has to do with a lot of different factors. Boys are ofter a tad bigger, gestational age, Which traits the child inherits. My sister was my mom's first at 6 1/2 I was 2nd at 7 1/2. My old best friend had the first 9 pounds 2nd 7 pounds.

In my case it is... my first was 11 lbs, 5 ozs and the 2nd was 10 lbs, 6 ozs

But that is not always the case. My husband (middle child) was the biggest. I (the youngest of 3) was the middle weight.
My sister's youngest was the biggest.

Gestatiotional Diabeties can cause large babies (over 10 lbs). I did not have it with my first (biggest) and did with my 2nd (smallest).

You never know.

I think that maybe you are thinking about how some people say that your first LABOR is usually longer, and with each additional labor the time sometimes gets shorter. I had gestational diabetes with my son, and he was a normal size at 8 lbs. Every woman and every pregnancy is different and you must remember that.

No this is not true at all. Boys "tend" to be bigger than girls and a mother with gestational diabetes definitely could have a bigger baby, but other than that is all left to chance.
My brother was first born at 6lbs then I was born second at 10lbs.

No. I was the biggest and I was my moms second child. My older sister was the middle in weight and my little brother was the smallest. My mom never had diabetes.

I don't know about the diabetes. I would say that it's an old wives tail though. It seems to be true for me, but as for my mother it was different.
