my 99 dodge neon ticks when taking off from 0-15 then it stops till you get to 55 and starts to tick again especially during a shifting point it seems. i have added Rosline to the oil and gas octane treatment as well as sea foam or whatever that cleans out the crud. Im kinda stuck now i dunno i have had it checked and the mechanic said it was nothing to worry about but dang is it annoying. can anyone help????

yeah i just had a oil change and they put lucas in it to see if this stopped the issue and it didnt it seems to only be loud when you get to a shifting point so i dont know how much does new rockers cost and whats the process of changing. Can i pick them up at autozone or where?

Dodge man is probably right on this one. My Intrepid started ticking a little over a year ago. It wasn't very loud. I usually only noticed it when I was in a drive-thru with concrete walls that made it echo. My wife could hear it more often, but I think her hearing is a little better. I switched from Quaker State oil to Castrol 5w-30 because they claim the Castrol reduces deposits. I didn't notice a difference immediately, but I figured oil is oil, so no big deal. But after a few weeks the ticking sound got much quieter. I haven't heard it again since, although my wife still says she hears it occasionally. If you can hear yours at 60 mph, its a lot worse than mine ever was, so you will probably need new rockers to quiet the noise. Give the Castrol oil a try first and see if it helps though. Are you using the right grade of oil? It should be 5w-30 for you too.

Thats how alumium rockers sound. they have this little tick about them. It's normal for the car to sound that way. If you want to get rid of the tick then change the rockers. Chysler and other aftermarket companys sell steel roller rockers for the Neons that give you an ok performance boot but keep the engine silent. the 2.0 SOHC motor that I just built for my 97 have them in it along with a decked head and 11.0 compression pistions. she has 70,000 miles on it and is as quiet as the day I put her in there.

if it ticking only at 1500- 2500 or untill you shift its not lifters its the rods tyou have worn bearings repace them soon as that can make the crank out of round and a new cranksaft is then needed.

Sounds like a CV Joint to me, but I cannot be certain from here. Does this ticking sound happen during cornering, and sound louder?
