Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails.

I know what Jesus said love was. John 15 showed us that we are to love one another. Jesus also said that "greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for a friend. ..... "
Love, true love is such that it is given without any expectation of a return. We cannot expect anything in response for our love given to others by our actions.
Love is a verb, not a noun. It is an action, not a thing to hold on to.
Love is not love if it is not given to some one else through an action.
Love is not something that happens to us. It is something that we do. We do not fall into love with anyone or anything. We choose to love. It is our choice. That is why Jesus could say "Love one another." It is our choice to make.
To love in the way we are told to love takes a great deal of hard work.

what do you mean what is the meaning of love? Love is something that should be cared for and not rushed too soon because you're lonley or pressured! If you find a true love, you may even marry them. It could be serious, or fall apart. It's like a wedding dance, as I say: "You can get married more than once, but no wedding dance is as special as your first." No love is as special as your first...and love is letting you know that you might actually care more than you could imagine for something! To me, a young 12yr old...., that is what love means.

The definition in God's word reads ...
"Love is long-suffering and kind.
Love is :
not jealous, it
does not brag,
does not get puffed up,
does not behave indecently,
does not look for its own interests,
does not become provoked. It
does not keep account of the injury. It
does not rejoice over unrighteousness,
[Love] rejoices with the truth.
Love :
bears all things,
believes all things,
hopes all things,
endures all things.
Love never fails. ...
Now, however, there remain faith, hope, love, these three;
but the greatest of these is love."
-- 1 Corinthians 13:4-8,13

Scott Peck wrote a good book on that subject in the "Road Less Traveled". I recommend it.
Love means putting someone else's needs at least on a par with your own. And the main thing is that Love is a CHOICE, not a feeling. That is how we can love our enemies. Love it treating the other person with respect, even when they don't deserve it, and putting their welfare even with your own, or in some cases above your own.

The best definition of love I have ever heard was "doing what is best for the other person." Notice the verb is "doing", not wanting or wishing.
