SUPERSESSIONISM:

Galatians 3:27-29
27 And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes.[a] 28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile,[b] slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children[c] of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you."

I believe that Christians are also the chosen ones. God will keep His oath with Abraham. But God said in the OT that from the Jews the Messiah would be born, and those who would be followers of Him would He call His chosen ones.

That's the thing. It's true that the Hebrews were God's chosen people. That's one concept that is stated clearly in the Bible. BUT, that's NOT where the story ends. That's why things like this get all screwed up. People generally base their assumptions on only a part of the story-- the part that they've heard.

But here, God had something to add to this story.

Have you heard that the Hebrews were acting faithless in the desert? And God got pretty sick of them there. In the face of daily miracles they would doubt God and whine about being back in Egypt.

Well, God promised them a thing or two;
Deuteronomy 32:20 "I will hide my face from them," he said,
"and see what their end will be;
for they are a perverse generation,
children who are unfaithful.

21 They made me jealous by what is no god
and angered me with their worthless idols.
I will make them envious by those who are not a people;
I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding.

And so the story goes! God keeps His promises. The Jews just after the days of Jesus were jealous, and many had problems with the word going out to the Gentiles. Many of them wanted to relieve the situation by burdening the Gentiles with their Laws. Paul, when he stood up to James, the Lord's brother, would show that it wasn't what a Christian should do.

Yes, God did seem to go head over heels to help the Hebrews/Israel to see his way was THE WAY. They just never seemed, as a people, to accept that for very long. Each time Israel veered away from God things started going bad for them. Eventually God saw that Israel was going to continue in this path so he opened things up to Gentiles. Jesus' teachings and salvation went out with Paul to the Romans and the Greeks, from there the message when out to all the world.

Cool beans!

Each of us comes to earth under different circumstances, with different strengths, different weaknesses, and with different opportunities to grow and develop and to help others grow and develop.

Our Heavenly Father loves all his children and sends us to earth under the right conditions for each of us. Usually I don't understand why some things happen, but I trust that He knows.

For example, for Abraham's faithfulness, he was told he'd have many descendants and that through them all the nations of the earth would be blessed. Note that the blessings were for all nations, but Abraham's seed were given certain responsibilities to bless others.

God sent his son to die for all man's sins. We are all his people now. For those who believe in what Christ did for us on the cross this makes us his people. His people were the Jews. In Revelations at the End of Days the Jews will recognize that Jesus is the Messiah and accept him.

As far as I understand things, only Jews believe that they are the chosen people (I'm in the process of converting to Judaism, so don't quote me on that). It depends on one's belief system as to whether or not this applies to you. Besides, it's okay not to be the chosen people. You sould bother because, as far as we know, we only have one trip on this crazy spinin' ball, so you should take advantage of the time you have here.

That's a load of self-serving bunk. Several other groups of people have also described themselves as "chosen" people. It's all just a form of self-gratifying egotistical delusion. Don't believe a word of it.

Greater nonsense has never been uttered by anyone, anywhere, anytime.
