creaming is just a word for mixing.
with sugar and butter, you use a fork and kind of smash the butter and sugar together until it's totally blended.
it comes out to be kind of like wet sand.

Everyone else's answers are great, but one thing you need to remember about creaming ingredients is that air needs to be incorporated to change the volume and texture. So, beating the ingredients hard and fast for 4-5 minutes should do the trick.
