You need a high school diploma! Other than that, entry-level positions exist for everyone. Check out their website
http://www.gocoastguard.com/
(the following is from there)
# You must be a US citizen or a Resident Alien.
# Be between the ages of 17-27 (up to age 32 if attending an "A" school) for Active Duty. (If you are 17, you'll need parental consent.)
# Reservists must be between 17-39. Prior service personnel should contact their local recruiter for specific programs.
# Have a high school diploma. GEDs are accepted in special circumstances.
# Have no more than two dependents.
# Pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test.
# Pass a military entrance medical exam.
# Be the type of person who wants to serve the public on or around the water.
......
And call a recruiter for information.
Just a word of caution: with the military, as with other organizations, always get ALL promises in writing.
Best wishes! Semper Paratus!

High school graduation. Thats it.
Once you join the Coast Guard, they give you the training you need. After you go through your boot camp, you will choose a specialty. Preferably, this would be something that you already know something about, and have done in the past. However, that is not a requirement. If you choose a specialty that you have always wanted, but just never done, they can give you that training.
