I'm not clinically depressed; however, I am going through some severe family and relationship issues right now. Suffice to say these involve illnesses and the situation in Iraq. I usually am in very good spirits, but sometimes I don't know how to keep going on. I want answers past the typical "keep looking on the bright side" or "take a deep breath and distract yourself" fare. I want to hear something very specific and effective that someone has found that can boost my spirits when they're especially low. Thanks to all who offer advice.

I suggest that you start working out and eating healthier. This may help alleviate the stress and depression you are feeling. If none of this works, you may want to consider talking to a pyschologist. They might be able to help. Also, try listen to music you enjoy. Music may help get you in good spirits.

Have you tried being around people who can help lift your spirits? Have you tried volunteering somewhere -- usually when you help someone else it makes your problems pale in comparison. Have you tried playing upbeat music or going to a comedy club or watching a comedy play? Just a few suggestions. Hope you feel better. I would not take any drugs. Some times the drugs can make you feel worse.

It sounds like a lot of things are out of your control right now. When this happens, we tend to feel bent, or a little desperate. Even with that, we can regain control of things by focusing on what we can control and realizing that not being in control is o.k. You are allowed to feel cruddy! Accepting responsibility for our own decisions, and actions, relinquishing responsibility for things that are out of our control, and even when things are very sad, realizing that this too shall pass, is very helpful.
Everything happens in our lives for a reason, perhaps this is a growing time for you. The pain that you are feeling is going to be effective in the future, perhaps you will help someone else in similar situations, or just being able to be empathetic to them, could be of help. I am sorry you are struggling right now, but I know God has a plan for you. Trust him for all you have today, yesterday and tomorrow, he will never forsake you! God Bless!

Eat some chocolate, work out more in the open, walk in a nearby wood or lakeshore, fill yourself with beautiful visions. and sounds. surround yourself with symphatetic people, maybe there is a self help group that can be a catharsis. remember life is a wheel of fortune, so now you are down, but soon you'll be up again. if that does not help.... seek professional advice, psychologist or priest.

talk to God. he already knows what you are going through but he is waiting for you to invite Him to get invloved and help you through it. God gave us free wil. he is not a pushy God and won't barge into your life. talk to him like you woul talk to your best friend. he will answer..i promise. You just have to listen. he may not answer in a way you expect but he will answer. prayer always works for me.

the other thing that works for me that may seem strange is to look around a people who have it far worse off than you. i have a son with kabuki syndrome which some times gets me down when i see my son struggle...then I think of babies born with something like harlequin syndrome and I feel blessed that my so n is not one of those babies.no matter how bad things are..they can always be worse. God bless youand . I will say a prayer for you to lift your spirits.

Seriously, quit feeling sorry for yourself. Get a job or at least a hobby... keep your mind occupied.
