Just recently, I have had the worst acne by my chin and mouth. I heard that making a paste out of cinnamon & honey makes it go away. Does it really? Or does anyone have any other suggestion? I've been using Neutrogena daily scrub & astringent.

I've never heard of this before. I wouldn't think it would have any effect, and might actually inflame your skin, since cinnamon is a hot spice. Are you sure it wasn't turmeric? I've heard of people using turmeric on their skin before. I believe it's a natural analgesic.

I would suggest a sulfur treatment. Queen Helene's Mint Julep mask is one that people tend to like, but you can find others by looking at the ingredients in drugstore products. Look for the more unusual ones for sulfur.

A common cause of skin eruptions on the lower jaw is actually a sensitivity to some ingredients in toothpaste. You could try using a toothpaste without tartar control or fluoride, or try a sensitive tooth toothpaste, and always make sure to rinse that area well (ideally, wash it) after brushing.

But yes, other factors/causes could be stress or hormones. Also, if you eat something like buttered popcorn or fried chicken (something greasy), or lean on your hands a lot, leaving oil (from the food) or passing bacteria (from your hands) to your face, it can cause you to break out. You can also break out from bacteria transferred to your face from your phone, so you should wipe it down with alcohol every so often, and be sure to wash any of that other bacteria or oil off your face. [Note: eating the food will NOT make you break out. Getting your face dirty with it and not washing it off could.]

If you haven't been, you might try a treatment with salicylic acid and/or benzoil peroxide. Choose a weak solution/cream/gel of either of these and use it on your entire face twice daily. If you'd like a homemade salicylic acid treatment, you can use aspirin or alka-seltzer tablets crushed in water or witch hazel to make a paste/mask.

You can also loosen skin plugs, remove dead skin that might create them, and increase skin cell turnover by using an astringent that has glycolic acid in it. If you find glycolic acid too strong for your skin, try a lactic acid treatment. This will also help fix any scarring or marking from existing pimples.

Also, if you're cleansing your skin with a scrub (which I wouldn't do, it can be far too rough) and astringent, you should be using a moisturizer, or you will get a bounce-back production of oil and that can make you break out. A good option is jojoba oil, which is chemically almost identical to sebum, your natural skin oil, and therefore works very well with your skin. A lot of acne sufferers swear by it. You can use it on its own or add a few drops to an oil-free moisturizer.

If your skin doesn't start to clear up, if it gets worse, or if you have deep, painful pimples (cysts) you have to see a doctor for further help. S/he will probably prescribe an antibiotic treatment.

Good luck!

edit: I checked out the mixture you'd heard about, and found this. It was seen in a tabloid and several people on this message board tried it. http://www.acne.org/messageboard/index.php?showtopic=78196 They don't seem to be for it, by and large. It doesn't surprise me. And if you have acne that's bad enough for you to be desperately coming up with ancient miracle cure mixtures, you probably really need to focus on what works. Just so you know, salicylates are natural (they occur in willow bark), peroxide is an organic compund, lactic acid is in milk and your muscles, and sulfur is an element. The stuff we use as medicine is usually created from natural substances. You don't have to find something in a bee hive for it to be natural, and not everything in nature is good for your skin.

Hi, I would recommend not to use it. I tried using it..I used to apply it on my face for 15 mins and wash it off. My skin used to burn and itch a lot after it. I also had rash on my face. Whenever I used to wash it off, i had really red face, with rash and itchy and burning sensation. It dries the skin a lott. My recommendation is not to use it. Try applying Fuller's earth mask. Its good and effective, has no side effect. All d best

get vasoline intensive care with ALOE ( aloe is a medicine plant) get it at a dept. store its a lotion. Now put it on by rubbing into your skin and an extra amount on red spots or pimples, do this twice a day and leave it on for 2 hours and then wash it off with soap and water, do this for 3 weeks then twice a week to keep the problem from returning.

NO...don't put anything on your face but a MILD soap.
Get some Clenia wash from the dermatologist. (don't scrub your face either..it just makes acne worse...)
