How much warning does the army have to give before they put a person on stoploss? How exactly does this work?

They do not have to give any warning what-so-ever. when a unit gets deployment orders, a stop loss is immediately inacted. it means that nobody can PCS until the stop loss is lifted (at the end of the deployment) even if someone already has orders to PCS, they will be deleted. stop loss also applies to someone getting out of the army, say their enlistment time is up and then the unit gets stop lossed, that person will be involuntarily extended until the stop loss is lifted. the reason for a stop loss is so that a unit can deploy at full strength.
