I will be going on vacation this summer and am currently looking up pet sitting in case my friend cannot take care of my kitten. I am looking into all my options. I cannot do a kennel as my kitten has a virus contagious to other kitties and also has kidney problems related to the recent recall of food. He is on medication daily and has to have someone come twice daily to give the medication. My question is, If I hire a pet sitter to come in and clean the litter box, give him his meds in the food and change his water dish daily, etc... Do or should I tip them? and if so, how much as you can see how much they would have to do. I might be able to get away with them only coming once a day to give the meds, if the vet says it is ok. It is only the lysene that supresses his virus that he gets twice a day in his food. Thank you in advance for your kind answers.

Yes, of course, I would pay them their fee. I mean tip them. Like you would tip a waiter or waitress or a hairdresser.

I usually don't tip in a case like this because you are paying them to do a job that they have quoted you a fee.
If you think they have been especially attentive & you want to do something for them why not give a gift certificate to a local restaurant rather than money.

If you think they did a great job of looking after your pet, then by all means tip them. After all this is a part of your family. It may not be a traditional job but tipping is definitely appreciated. The rule for a dog groomer is 15% of your bill so I imagine that this would apply here as well.

Since you are having your pet sitter do extra work, ie. medication and coming twice a day, I would certainly tip my sitter for her/his extra work. If the sitter was just coming and doing the routine stuff, then I probably would not.

You can give them a little extra if they did a good job...maybe give them the amount they charge for 1 visit. Or you can always bring them back a gift from wherever you are vacationing.

If you are paying them an adequate amount to begin with..a tip is uncessary..HOWEVER I would remember this person on his/her birthday and at Christmas with a little added gift or bonus.

searching on who you'd be puppy sitting for, I highly propose that you also change into insured and bonded. i in my opinion could never resign the care of my animals to all of us, no count number number the prices or in the adventure that they were insured/bonded yet i could truthfully seem at getting bonded. As for prices, do an internet search for for puppy sitters on your area.

You should certainly pay them. Is that what you mean by tip? How much would depend on how much they ask and how long you'll be gone.

I think with your cat's special needs, that might be appropriate, as long as you're happy with your pet sitter's work.
