You can get her fixed while shes in heat. I think it will cost more though.
I can't believe you adopted her from a shelter and they didn't fix her for you!

It's not a good idea to have a cat spayed when she's in heat because her hormone levels are raging and spaying her means her system will really in in turmoil. If you can, you're better to wait until she comes off estrus. You can usually tell when she's in heat because there is a slight discharge and some swelling in the vaginal area. She'll also spend a lot of time licking herself in that area. Check with the shelter or with your vet to make sure you know both when she is in heat and when it is over.

You can get your cat spayed when she's in heat, but there's a slightly greater bleeding risk because the uterine blood vessels are dilated.
You'll have to check with your vet to find out if she is willing to do the surgery. You also need to consider if you are able to isolate your cat until she is out of heat!
Good luck.

you'll have a not ordinary time looking a vet keen to spay a cat in warmth. each thing in that area of the cat is amazingly swollen making surgical treatment difficult. Sorry, youre only going to could submit with one extra warmth cycle. I didnt get mine spayed till she became 2 and a nil.5, so I truthfully comiserate with you on the howling ingredient. besides the indisputable fact that it can be most secure on your cat to attend a week or 2, till shes executed. solid success and get some earplugs! Haha.

I have a total of 4 female cats and I asked my vet about spaying them while they are in heat and she told me that it would be fine and I had two of them spayed (the other two are not old enough yet) while they were in heat and I had no problems with the two that I got spayed. Check with your vet to see what he or she says. Like I said mine said it was fine and it didn't cost me anymore than if they were not in heat.

It's okay, but there are some greater risks like the other responses say, and from what I have heard the Vet will most of the time charge more.

No, I think the vet will want to wait until she's off heat to operate. Not sure about how you'll know, but ask the vet.
