ok, i'll start off by saying that i'm 12, in 7th grade, and i have a BIG presentation tomorrow. my teacher said to dress nicely, so my mom's making me wear a skirt. the only problem... i don't shave my legs, but i want to, and where i live, it's vital. i already told my mom that i wanted to, and people were making fun of me (even though they're not), and that all the other girls shave. you know what she told me? " YOU DON"T HAVE TO BE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE" my mom's a tough lady, and she sticks to her word. she also won't take any crap about veet and other ways to remove hair. and trust me, she'll know if i shave by myself, and then i'll get in big trouble. when my parents went on vacation i shaved by myself. i know how, and really, it's not a big deal. man, what do i do? should i shave my legs just for tonight? but then it'll grow back darker right? then i'll be more embaressed during PE.( we have to wear shorts) thanks in advance.

hello..i have been through teh same exact thing when i was a little girl. But it was worst back then. Anways you really shouldnt disobey your mother evenb though sometimes she can be a real pain. But your mother is just afraid of you grwoing up too fast. All parebts are liek that. I know it sucks but when you get older you would undersatnd. And if you really want to shve them for any reason that has to with being cool or not made fun of, that mean you are not confident with what you have. It means you are afraid of what others think of you. But you shouldnt. Everyone has beauty inside of them. But you just have to let it show. Plus if you do shave people will be like "oo she shaved so she could fit in" and that i even worse. Well good luck! By the way I know your not going to listen to my advice becuase you care about probably is looking good on the outside and not on the inside...well bye and hope all is well

Ok, first I wanna say when you do start shaving, no your hairs dont grow back dark AT FIRST. After a few times of shaving it will grow back dark and long. (its ugly)
Being a mom and hard like yours, I would understand especially if you came to me and said that you wanna shave because this might be the only time because of the presentaion or if you say that shaving your legs is a sign of growing up, and you'll be careful. *sometimes ya just gotta prove yourself*
Wearing a dress or a skirt does require having shaved legs because it is a lot better. Just be careful how you present yourself to your mom. Somehow, us moms know when your not being totally honest.
If you live somewhere where they dont shave, then you really dont have nothing to worry about. But when it comes to people laughing it seems a bit harder.
Go with your true feelings on what U should do! Good luck!
Your welcome! :) I hope things work out for you!

Wow, have you tried to really talk to your mom ( with no yelling ) to explain why it is such a big deal to you? I am a mother of 3 and i know i would really try and understand. What is your mothers reason for you not shaving yet? Do you really think it is needed, can you really see tons of hair or is it just because the other girls are? If it is to be like others / shaving is a pain, the longer you can get away without doing it the better! Don't ever do things because others are- your mom is right on that, be your own person - it will pay off, really! Good luck!

Ok--I grew up with a mom like yours and the best advice I can give you is never to use the excuse "well everyone else does it". Tell your mom that you want to shave because your hair is very long and it's an embarrassment to you. You want to focus tomorrow solely on your presentation, and not have to worry about people commenting on your legs. If she still refuses to budge, ask her if you two can compromise--either you wear dress pants or tights (I don't know where you are from it might be too warm for tights). Hope this helped!

it isn't just being like everyone else, it is a major part of your hygene. they do have a spray that gets rid of hair and nair works well too, but your mother is holding you back. she is worried that once you start shaving, you will start growing up more and no mother wants that, but there was a girl in my school who's mother wouldn't let her shave and no one liked her. I don't want you to be that girl because she has MAJOR problems now from her over-protective mother. you need to talk with her and explain that you need to grow up and you are mature enough to shave. I started shaving in the fourth grade, but most start in about 5th or 6th

Talk about it with your mum once again.
If she still doesn't agree then I should just shave your legs.
A few years a go my mom said I wasn't allowed to shave my legs, I just did it and she wasn't even mad.
Or you could make your skirt ''dissapear''.
Or try to wear a panty, then you won't see the hairs (or at least you don't see them clearly).
Good luck!

Just FYI, your hair doesn't grow back darker - just because you shave your hair, that doesn't change the molecular structure or it. It just might appear darker because you've cut the hair and the end is now blunt, instead of tapered, like before. It's up to you if you think you'll get in trouble or not and if it's worth it to you of not. I just wanted to let you know about that "growing back darker" myth
