Ahhh... Sentence enhancers! Sometimes we get so tied up in political correctness and respect for the feelings of others that our message gets blurred. I hear kids today say F You and to them it means, "good morning." Where I grew up F You meant, F You, it never meant, "Hey... Let's go have coffee."
I'm probably on the losing side of this question but I'm right there with you. While there are CLEARLY better ways to get your point across, profanity is often the shortest distance between an important message and an otherwise apathetic recipient.

I think profanity is more a sign of someone who doesn't know what other word to use... or doesn't want to speak correctly. As a writer, I see NO point to swearing, no matter how many other writers think there are times it's appropriate.

The use of certain blue words does not equate being profane to me. I don't even know why some words are considered naughty when you can use a non-dirty equivalent, e.g. crap instead of s**t or fudge or dohiggy. Any word can be dirty when said under the correct circumstances. These blue words have been part of our vocabulary forever, and to not use them would show how stinted your grasp is of the colorful vocabulary we have to offer.

The language you use reflects on you. When you use profanities you come across as an uneducated person with poor manners. If you don't care about the impression you make, then it' OK. Mind you, I am not moralizing, when I stub my toe, unparliamentary language may slip out of my mouth.

You don't have to use profanity to be heard or understood. I think it shows a lack of respect and moral aptitude. And it makes one look so immature.

sorry, but since you ask I always equate use of profanity with ignorance and low social status. Like people with any class or education don't need to resort to swearing. That said, please do not think I never do swear... when I get angry or hurt myself I DO know the words! But I try not to use them.

But then it shows both a complete lack of morals and perhaps lowered intelligence

I use profanity to add spice to my punchlines, to get my point across, and mostly because I'm A grown a** woman who can do and say whatever the f**k I want! See, fun for me equals funny to whoever is listening!

Yes, it is laziness, as well as a lack of respect for one's hearers.
