I am buying t-shirts for my 4 year old nephew and my niece who will be 5 next month. I want to buy them both t-shirts, but want them to be a suprise to everyone. They are both average size. What size kid shirt should I buy? I am buying custom tshirts from a website so it is kid size, small, medium or large. I'm torn between the small and medium...just normal cotton t-shrits. Help me out moms :)

For kids the age usually corresponds to the size a small may be a 4-5 or 4-6. I would say small. My son is almost 6 and is average size and i was buying him extra small in the boys department but now he has moved into small. Unless these kids are bigger than most then i would say small and extra small for the 4 year old if they carry it.

My son is 3 1/2 and we bought him a size small for his preschool shirt. It's actually a little big on him. The T-Shirt itself is just a plain cotton T. The tag says Small 4-6. Hope that helps.

I'd go for at least a small & that would probably fit well for right now, but consider a medium if they are being custom made with something special that you want to last for a while. A shirt that is large can always have the sleeves rolled up & the kid won't grow out of it as quickly.

From the way you describe the kids I would say a small. My daughter is 5 1/2 and is tall and skinny and she takes an x-small. Hope this helps, good luck.

Well, it really depends on what "average" you are using. My child is "average" and his is wearing a 2T and is 12 months old. I would buy a 5T and a 6T. They seem to "level out" around 2 and 3 years of age. It really depends on where you buy their t-shirts, though. You can go to a lot of different stores for your husband and buy him 32-30 pants that will all fit him, but the same does not go for children (sometimes). Think of it like shopping for women. She might be a size 6 at Neimann Marcus, but a 12 at Wal-Mart. I'd still go with a 5T and a 6T though.

The 4 y.o. may need an extra small, the 5 y.o. should wear a small. If they have them in toddlers, you could buy a 5T. for the 4 y.o.
