May I assume you are speaking of that word that sounds like
"Luck?" If so, as Jesus says, to think it is as bad as to do it. So, saying the word rather than punching their lights out (or getting your lights punched out) is no better.
I suppose you could use other words that mean the same ... such as "piss" as in "Piss Off!" or "stuffed" as in "Get Stuffed." And let us not forget the ever popular "Buggar off." But that just doesn't seem to have the same shock effect that the "F" word has, does it?
At any rate, may I suggest that it is used because the vocabulary holds not the necessary adjectives, verbs and nouns to fill the need for many people's use.

Sometimes, it's the only effing word that will fit a particular situation.
What the eff was a I thinking?
I the words of one man I heard, It's not really a word, but a form of verbal punctuation: You may hear this sentence...
"Who drank all the beer ... eff"
In this case, it's a question mark.
Or this answer ....
"You drank it all last night ... eff"
Obviously here, it's an exclamation point.
You get the idea.
Wouldn't Christians think that the f-word is better than taking the name of their God in vain?

when i was younger only the really bad boys used the word, and the girls never did.
now i hear it constantly, by both men and women, it started out as a way to shock people, and get their attention, as time progressed people forgot all the other words that they could use to describe something.
i have friend that if you took that word away from them they could not talk at all.

I used to say the eff word even though I am fairly well educated, until I realized that I was degrading myself to myself and to others. So, I stopped.

Because they're taught that it is 'cool' to do so. Most often, media and peers create this impression, but of course, they must make a conscious effort to subscribe to a particular behavioral 'norm'. To me, most people swear because they lack the skills to emote in other ways, or are unable to access other cultural norms where swearing is considered to be in poor taste.
Most people whose behavior is more animalistic than humane will swear frequently because they lack the courage to express themselves differently. They often possess cunning and duplicity rather than intelligence and caritas

Some use it out of habit. But in other cases the use of a "strong" word that gets a strong reaction can be a weak person's clutch and armour. It makes them feel all big!

I agree with Hayden. I would love to punch their lights out but saying the word is another form of releasing anger.

I think it is because they do not have a well-developed vocabulary. They substitute the F word to mean almost anything under the sun, and expect the listener/reader to understand their meaning through context.
It is lazy and inconsiderate, IMO.
