i was thinking about buying a 5 channel 900 watt amp for 2 400 watt subs.it has a max power output of 400Wx1 @ 2 ohm
and i was wondering if this would work

If you got a 5 ch. amp, you'd only be able to use either 2 ch.'s @2Ohms each or bidge 4 ch.'s into 2@4Ohms each.

Get a 2 ch. amp rated @ or right above your subs RMS power rating.
For ex. if each of your subs are 400wrms, get an amp that gives them 400wrms each -at the right impedance.

Why would you get a 5 channel amp for two subs, get a mono or a two channel. and its impossible to answer your question, you need to provide more info, how much rms everything is and what ohms everything is

yes as long as your amps smaller than your max sub watts your fine

if your just using it for your subs your better off getting a mono amp. are the subs svc or dvc and what ohm are they? if svc 4ohm you can get a 2ohm stable mono amp. its easier, you get better power and usually cheaper

If your woofers are 4 ohms single coil yes this amplifier will owrk
